The Thelema Chardonnay shows a nice, light straw yellow. The bouquet shows aromas of ripe peach, grapefruit marmalade, blossoms and complex yeasty flavours complement the toasty oak in the wine. The palate of this south-african white wine is clean with a lovely texture and long finish.

Enjoy this wine with full flavoured dishes such as lobster, tuna, chicken and pork.

A big hit in Platter rated highly. Selected as the best wine at the tasting of the SAA.

Thelema Mountain Vineyards liegt hoch am Helshoogte Pass des Simonsbergs im weltberühmten Weinbaugebiet Stellenbosch in Südafrika.

Gyles Webb, eigentlich Buchhalter von Beruf, kaufte zusammen mit seiner Frau die ursprüngliche Obstfarm 1983 und begann in der Zeit Weinbau in Stellenbosch zu studieren. Der Erfolg ließ nicht lange auf sich warten, bereits Mitte der 90er Jahre waren seine Weine weit bekannt und er gewann zahlreiche Preise und Auszeichnungen.

Bei Thelema Mountain Vineyards sind rote Weine mit Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot sowie Shiraz und Cabernet Franc vorherrschend. Weißweine der Spitzenklasse von den Sorten Sauvignon Blanc und Chardonnay gehören allerdings auch zum Repertoire.

Barbara und Gyles Webb leiten heute das Unternehmen Thelema Mountain Vineyards. Zum Unternehmen gehört seit 2002 auch ein zweiter Weinberg im Elgin Valley, wo die Marke Sutherland Vineyards produziert wird.

Im Glas ein heller, lebendiger Platin-Farbton mit grüner Tönung. Komplexes Bouquet von Zitronengras, Limetten, Hafermehl, ausdrucksstarker Mineralität.Am Gaumen ist der südafrikanische Wein von mittlerem Körper, aber mit klarer Säure, Aromen von Kalk, Marzipan, cremige ausgedehnte Eichen-, Apfel- und Birnbaum-Merkmale. Durch eine reine, lineare mineralische Note ergibt sich ein sauberer und langer Abgang.Von Hand gepflückt, als gesamte Partie gepresst und sofort in 300 Liter Fässer aus französischer Eiche gefüllt. Dabei wurden 60% neue Fässer und 40% Fässer, die schon bereits einmal befüllt waren, verwendet. Die Gärung fand in Eiche statt, teils als natürliche und teils als malolaktische Gärung. Die Reifung erfolgte für 12 Monate in Eichenfässern mit gelegentlichem Rühren vor dem Abfüllen in Flaschen.Dieser Weißwein aus der Region Stellenbosch passt perfekt zu gegrilltem Fisch, weißem und rotem Fleisch.

The Glen Carlou Chardonnay is medium-bodied, fresh and stimulating on the palate, with a balanced acidity, a lovely length and an impressive finesse.The Chardonnay matured for 10 months in special Chardonnay casks, of which 30% each were new, second- and third-fill barrels. The rest of the barrels were fourth-fill casks, giving the white wine only subliminal but wonderfully harmonious notes of wood. The wine’s fruitiness remains predominant.This white wine from Paarl, South Africa, is a good accompaniment to fried scampi or mussels in white wine.

The Thelema Merlot aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new). This South African Merlot is wonderfully balanced, juicy, offers fine fruit flavors and hints of toast. The tannins are well integrated and enrich the wine in just the right way. The finale, with underlying notes of dark chocolate is the crowning finish of this fine taste of Stellenbosch.For the winery Thelema the vintage was a real challenge. In a dry, warm and windy year different varieties of grapes were ripe at the same time and made the harvest a true race against time.The experienced crew Thelema has mastered this task. Enjoy the Thelema Merlot with mushroom risotto, pasta dishes and grilled meat.
