Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay - Elegant white wine from Stellenbosch

Producing a truly outstanding Chardonnay is always a great challenge for winegrowers. The fact that this grape can be found all over the world is certainly also due to the fact that it is very adaptable. But this is precisely what makes it all the more difficult for a wine-growing business. The Hartenberg Chardonnay is a positive example. The grapes are processed separately according to the individual parcels of the vineyard. Only at the end of the vinification process is the final Chardonnay blend put together under strict quality selection. The wine then matures for 11 months in French barriques.

The result has been impressing wine critics all over the world for years. The wine has a wonderful aroma of white pear, tropical fruit, vanilla and roasted almonds. On the palate, these notes blend into a perfect taste. Subtly integrated oak aromas contribute to a long, creamy finish, supported by a fresh acidity.

Hartenberg's Chardonnay goes perfectly with dishes with cream sauces, smoked chicken or duck or, for example, seared tuna with olive oil, lime juice and black pepper.

Hartenberg Estate

Der Name Hartenberg kommt aus der afrikanischen Sprache (Afrikaans) und bedeutet „Herz des Berges“. Das Weingut liegt in der Region Stellenbosch, etwa 54 Kilometer östlich von Kapstadt. Hartenberg verfügt über 150 Hektar Land, von denen zwei Drittel mit Reben bepflanzt sind. Hier finden Sie neun verschiedene Bodenarten und ganz unterschiedliche mikroklimatische Bedingungen, die die Weine so besonders machen. Seit 1993 stellt Winzer Carl Schultz im Familienbetrieb Hartenberg Spitzenweine her.

Die Geschichte von Hartenberg reicht noch weiter zurück: Den Weinbaubetrieb gibt es bereits seit 1692. Hartenberg ist bekannt für seine großartigen Rotweine, für die die kargen Sandböden rund um Stellenbosch wie geschaffen sind. Bereits 1692 erhielten Cunraad Boin und Christoffel Esterhuizzen die Erlaubnis, das Land zu bearbeiten. Sie erkannten bald das Potenzial des Terroirs und pflanzten 1704 die ersten 2.000 Reben. Im selben Jahr nannte Gouverneur Van der Stel (Stellenbosch ist tatsächlich nach ihm benannt) das Weingut „Hartenberg“.

Hartenberg besitzt den größten unterirdischen Weinkeller Südafrikas. Hier werden alle Weine aufbewahrt und erst dann auf den Markt gebracht, wenn der Winzer Carl Schultz sie für optimal trinkreif hält.

Mulderbosch Chardonnay
The Mulderbosch Chardonnay from Stellenbosch is an accessible yet stylish representative of its grape variety. The grapes come from various sites in the region and bring the typical combination of freshness and ripe fruit to the glass for which South African Chardonnay is prized.Lively citrus notes dominate the nose, reminiscent of orange peel and a hint of lemon blossom. Maturation on the fine lees also ensures a fine texture and a little more complexity without making the wine appear too heavy. The result is a modern, uncomplicated and accessible Chardonnay with good balance.The Mulderbosch Chardonnay goes well with poultry, light pasta dishes or fried fish. It is also a harmonious choice with mild cheese. Thelema Chardonnay
The Thelema Chardonnay shows a nice, light straw yellow. The bouquet shows aromas of ripe peach, grapefruit marmalade, blossoms and complex yeasty flavours complement the toasty oak in the wine. The Hartenberg Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is a powerful yet elegant red wine cuvée from the South African wine region of Stellenbosch. In this wine, the Hartenberg Estate combines the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon with the spicy richness of Shiraz. The result is a well-balanced, multi-faceted red wine with excellent ageing potential.The wine matures for at least 16 months in used French oak barrels to give it additional depth and a fine spiciness. Springfield Life From Stone Sauvignon Blanc
The Life from Stone Sauvignon Blanc from Springfield Estate in Robertson, South Africa, is an impressive example of the region's exceptional minerality. On the estate's extremely stony quartz soils, the vines thrive in challenging conditions, giving the wine its characteristic pebbly, mineral expression. Every step in the vineyard reflects the meticulous handiwork of Springfield Estates: the planting of the older vines required monumental efforts, sometimes even the use of dynamite, to penetrate the hard rock.The vines are planted on a gently south-facing slope with 6060 vines per hectare. The climate is characterized by moderate summers with cool nights and cold winters, while the southeast wind in summer ensures healthy, aromatic grapes. These grapes are harvested at night and immediately protected with dry ice to preserve their freshness and fine aromas. Before bottling, only a 2.5-micron filtration is carried out - a gentle treatment that preserves the natural freshness and complexity of the wine.Intense minerality meets fresh citrus and green apple notes, which are typical of Sauvignon Blanc.
