Die Weinfarm Vergelegen (Ferngelegen) wurde 1700 durch Adrian van der Stell gegründet. Er war der Sohn von Simon van der Stell, dem ersten Gouverneur von Kapstadt, welcher Stellenbosch bzw. Simonsberg seinen Namen verlieh.

Seit Mitte der 80er Jahre zeichnet ein Investor aus dem Minengeschäft, für die unter Kulturschutz stehende Farm verantwortlich und ließ sie zu ihrer einstigen Pracht aufblühen.

The Glen Carlou Chardonnay is medium-bodied, fresh and stimulating on the palate, with a balanced acidity, a lovely length and an impressive finesse.The Chardonnay matured for 10 months in special Chardonnay casks, of which 30% each were new, second- and third-fill barrels. In 1914, Elizabeth Katherina English bought the Schoongezicht farm and renamed it Lanzerac. In the following years, one of the most modern wineries at that time was created at the Cape.
