Die Weinfarm Vergelegen (Ferngelegen) wurde 1700 durch Adrian van der Stell gegründet. Er war der Sohn von Simon van der Stell, dem ersten Gouverneur von Kapstadt, welcher Stellenbosch bzw. Simonsberg seinen Namen verlieh.

Seit Mitte der 80er Jahre zeichnet ein Investor aus dem Minengeschäft, für die unter Kulturschutz stehende Farm verantwortlich und ließ sie zu ihrer einstigen Pracht aufblühen.

Aaldering Chardonnay Stellenbosch

The Aaldering Chardonnay has an intense bouquet offering notes of peach, lime and mandarin. On the palate, the white wine from the Devon Valley shows a lovely fullness, a creamy juiciness and a prolonged finish as well. This pure varietal Chardonnay consists of three components: the juice delivered by the freshly harvested grapes before they are pressed (‘free run juice’), the part of the wine which was fermented in second-, third- and fourth-fill barrels as well as the must which was aged in stainless steel tanks, making this blend a special taste experience.The Aaldering Chardonnay has a good ageing potential of 5 to 7 years. The grapes come from vineyards planted in calcareous clay and gravel soils between 240 and 500 meters in the areas Ora, Tramin and Egna.The grapes were gently pressed immediately following harvest. This Chardonnay from South Africa has a wonderfully fruity bouquet offering aromas of apples, gooseberries and ripe pears, along with notes of lemon cream and pineapple and nuances of vanilla and butterscotch as well. The Glen Carlou Chardonnay is medium-bodied, fresh and stimulating on the palate, with a balanced acidity, a lovely length and an impressive finesse.The Chardonnay matured for 10 months in special Chardonnay casks, of which 30% each were new, second- and third-fill barrels. The rest of the barrels were fourth-fill casks, giving the white wine only subliminal but wonderfully harmonious notes of wood.
