Château Lilian Ladouys Saint-Estèphe AOC 2023

Château Lilian Ladouys is located in the renowned Saint-Estèphe appellation in the northern Médoc and is one of the appellation’s rising stars. The 2023 vintage, often unfairly overshadowed by the 2022, is composed of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, and reflects the classic character of Saint-Estèphe with remarkable freshness and precision.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color with violet highlights. The bouquet opens with intense aromas of black currants, blackberries, and mulberries, accompanied by floral notes of violets and lavender, as well as subtle nuances of graphite, licorice, and delicate spices. On the palate, it is quite powerful, with juicy dark fruit, lively acidity, and finely structured, ripe tannins. Mineral hints, elegant spice, and a long, precise finish lend the wine depth and finesse. Despite its youth, it is already approachable, yet it also possesses excellent aging potential for the next ten to fifteen years.

Culinary-wise, the Château Lilian Ladouys 2023 pairs superbly with classic meat dishes such as rack of lamb, beef tenderloin, entrecôte, or game. It also pairs excellently with braised beef, duck breast, grilled meats, and hearty mushroom dishes. Thanks to its freshness and spice, it also pairs very well with hearty pasta dishes, Mediterranean cuisine, and select Asian dishes with dark sauces. To experience the full flavor, please decant this wine for at least one hour before serving.

(Still) a hidden gem in terms of value—be sure to snag the 2023 vintage from Lilian Ladouys quickly before others do!

Chateau Lilian Ladouys Cru Bourgeois 2018
André Kunz: 18/20 Punkte; Suckling: 94/100 Punkte; Jane Anson 93/100 Punkte.

Chateau Meyney Saint-Estephe AOC 2019

The Château La Commanderie is beguiling on the nose, offering lovely, spicy aromas and fragrances of red and dark berries, cherries, pepper and polish. On the palate, it has an impressive abundance of fruit and silky, very well integrated tannins and a lovely long finish, showing subtle hints of mint and herbs. This charming Saint-Estèphe goes beautifully with beef, steaks, lamb, game and various cheeses.
