This Crianza comes from the Bierzo region and is made from 100% Mencia grapes, an autochthonous grape variety from northwestern Spain. In recent years, more and more wonderfully elegant wines have been produced in this emerging region, one of which is the Armas de Guerra Mencia Crianza. The grapes for this wine come from bush vines that are between 65 and 85 years old and grow mainly on clay and slate soils. The vineyards are situated about 450 to 600 metres above sea level. Harvesting is done by hand. The wine was aged in stainless steel tanks and concrete barrels for almost 50 days before it matured for another 12 months in French oak casks.

The Armas de Guerra Mencia Crianza is a deep cherry-red in the glass with light glints on the rim. The wine is redolent of ripe red and black fruit, along with noticeable mineral aromas and fine wooden notes. It is sumptuous, fresh and fleshy on the palate, with silky, supple tannins. The finish is characterised by notes of peppermint, once again underlining the wine’s special aromas.

The Armas de Guerra Mencia Crianza is currently at the peak of its maturity but can also be enjoyed over the next three to four years. It is an ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes.

The Armas de Guerra Rosado comes from the Bierzo region in northwestern Spain. It is made from the Mencia grape variety, which is cultivated exclusively in northwestern and central Spain. The Zenato Valpolicella is somewhat similar to the Bardolino; however, the Valpolicella is a little more powerful and shows a fuller body – it is simply of better quality. The Beyerskloof Traildust is a blend consisting of the Pinotage, Cinsault and Pinot Noir grape varieties. Everyone who knows that the Pinotage grape variety is a cross between Cinsault, also known as Heritage, and Pinot Noir immediately recognises the special quality of this wine.Winemaker Anri Truter, the owner of the Beyerskloof estate, thus united the ancient grape varieties with the new Pinotage cross. One might suppose that this was a bold experiment. However, after several years of trying the estate produced a wonderful wine. The Beyerskloof Traildust is, so to speak, a tribute to the legacy of the Pinotage.The wine has a wonderful bouquet offering aromas of black cherries, plums and flowers, accompanied by subtle hints of spice. It is a brilliant ruby-red in the glass. On the palate, the wine is juicy and fresh, with soft and balanced tannins. This is an elegant blend that is a rare find indeed.The Beyerskloof Traildust matured for 12 months in French oak casks, giving the wine its balance and power to accompany duck or game carpaccio, for example.
