Delheim & Hammel Staying Alive Riesling

Zwei renommierte Weingüter in Familienbesitz, eines aus Stellenbosch in Südafrika und das andere aus der Pfalz in Deutschland, haben sich zu einer einzigartigen Zusammenarbeit zusammengeschlossen, um einen Rieslingwein zu erzeugen, der das Engagement beider Familien für die Rebsorte Riesling und die Bedeutung von Weingütern in Familienbesitz unterstreicht.Der Staying Alive Riesling ist eine Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Pionierweingut Stellenbosch in Delheim und dem Weingut Hammel in Kirchbaum. Damit wird die Beziehung zwischen der Familie Sperling aus Delheim und den Hammels, die seit 1723 in Kirchbaum Wein herstellen, gefestigt.Der Wein ist das Ergebnis einer vier Jahrzehnte währenden Freundschaft zwischen Christoph Hammel, dem Winzer der neunten Generation im Weingut Hammel, und den Sperlings aus Delheim, wo Christoph in den 1980er Jahren unter dem Delheimer Patriarchen Spatz Sperling seine ersten Schritte als Winzer machte.Nora Sperling Thiel, Miteigentümerin und Direktorin von Delheim, sagt, die Zusammenarbeit mit Christoph Hammel sei der Höhepunkt einer 40-jährigen Beziehung und Freundschaft zwischen zwei Familien, die tief in der Weinwelt Südafrikas und Deutschlands verwurzelt sind.Eine einzigartige Zusammenarbeit erforderte eine einzigartige, eigenständige Marke, und so wurde der Wein Staying Alive genannt, mit einem farbenfrohen Retro-Etikett, als ein gemeinsames Produkt von Delheim und Hammel.

Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon

In der Nase zeigen sich schöne Aromen von Cassis, Pflaume, Zedernholz und Zigarrenschachtel. Im Unterton feine Kräuteraromen. Die Tannine sind schön integriert und haben eine zarte Struktur. Für eine 14-monatige Fasslagerung in zur Hälfte neuen französischen Eichenfässern ist der Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon am Gaumen ausgesprochen rund und mit großer Balance. Im Abgang schmeckt der Wein langanhaltend fruchtig nach Cassis.Servieren Sie den Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon zu gerösteten Gerichten, wie z.B. Ente, Lamm und Rind.

The Delheim Chardonnay Sur Lie is redolent of crisp apples, zitrus, quince and stone fruits complemented by hints of oak. This Chardonnay from South Africa matured for nine months in French oak casks.On the palate, the white wine shows a marginally creamy texture, a great structure and elegance as well. The finish is slightly mineral. Delheim Chenin Blanc Wild Ferment

Delheim Chenin Blanc Wild Ferment has a fresh colour with a green tint. The wine shows complexity from the natural fermentation with an array of flavours. Grapefruit, orange and white peaches on the nose with subtle savoury and oak flavours. The refined and elegant palate shows restraint, with lengthy tannins and sweet fruit that will complement a variety of dishes. The grapes were handpicked, followed by crushing, de-stemming and gentle pressing. Only two thirds of the juice was settled with enzymes; the balance was taken directly to barrel for fermentation. One third of the blend was fermented cold in concrete tanks, the other two thirds in barrel. Only natural fermentation took place. The wine in the concrete tanks spent 7 months on the lees with the balance aging in French oak barrels for 7 months. A combination of 225 and 500L barrels were used of which 20% were new.Suitable for vegans.

Delheim Gewürztraminer

Delheim Gewürztraminer offers aromas of orange blossom, Turkish Delight and litchi, backed by some zesty citrus notes. These flavours follow through on the palate.The grapes were handpicked, de-stemmed and only lightly pressed. The juice was settled overnight, then racked and inoculated with a selected yeast strain. Fermentation was done at low temperatures. The wine spent four months on the lees, after which it was lightly fined and sterile filtered.Enjoy this 100% Gewürztraminer now. It will also age well for five to six years after vintage.

Delheim Grand Reserve 2020

The grapes for Delheim Grand Reserve 2020 were harvested by hand in small batches, with only the best grapes being processed. The juice was fermented in a combination of open-top fermenters and vertical stainless steel tanks. After extraction, the wine matured for 18 months in 300-liter French oak barrels.The complex bouquet of this cuvée of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% Cabernet Franc, 12.5% Petit Verdot and 6% Merlot is dominated by blackberries and blackcurrants, followed by notes of tobacco and tomato leaf, fresh pencil shavings and cassis. On the palate, this red wine from South Africa is elegantly balanced with flavors of dark red fruits and a soft, chalky tannic finish typical of the region.Enjoy this powerful, fruity blend from the Stellenbosch region at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 degrees. Delheim Iconoclast Cabernet Franc

With the Iconoclast Cabernet Franc, the Delheim winery in Simonsberg presents an expressive red wine with a clear origin and unmistakable character. The vines thrive in the Vaaldraai vineyard on weathered granite soils of the Oakleaf profile - a unique combination of soil, slope and altitude of 220 to 260 meters above sea level. These conditions give the wine its depth, structure and elegant spiciness.The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and processed gently. After destemming and light crushing, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a two-week maceration period to intensify structure and complexity. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks before the wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels. This careful barrel selection results in a balanced, multi-layered wine with elegance and depth.In the glass, the Delheim Iconoclast Cabernet Franc presents itself with an intense, deep dark color. The nose reveals a complex interplay of aromas of dark berries, cassis, herbs and fine spices, underpinned by subtle toasted and woody notes.
