The grapes for the Allesverloren Chenin Blanc come from vineyards that are located more than 300 metres above sea level. The vineyards are exposed to the northwest and southeast, thus benefitting from optimal sunshine and giving the wine its special complexity and an enormous fullness. The wine has a clear, brilliant colour with light green glints. On the nose, it offers very fine nuances of coal, complemented by aromas of juicy apples and hints of lime.The Allesverloren Chenin Blanc is well-balanced, with restrained acidity. Nevertheless, it is lively, fresh and soft on the palate. The ripe notes of stone fruit particularly underscore this taste experience. We recommend serving this wine with light chicken dishes, summer salads or seafood.

Warum 221?Der Gründer des Weinguts Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe, von seinen Freunden „Alvi“ genannt, war 1928 als 19-jähriger der 221. Spieler der für die Springboks - Südafrikas Rugby-Nationalmannschaft – als Spieler ausgewählt wurde. Er schaffte Historisches indem ihm der erste „Versuch“ (im englischen Try) gegen die damals schon übermächtige Mannschaft der All Blacks (neuseeländische Rugby-Nationalteam) gelang. Gegen die sogenannten „Unbesiegbaren“ war das natürlich etwas ganz besonders. Mit der 221-Reihe zollen das Weingut Alvi´s Drift dem Patriarchen Oupa Alvi und den siegreichen südafrikanischem Rugbyteam Springbok Tribut.

Der Alvi´s Drift Albertus Viljoen Chenin Blanc ist ein Weißwein aus der Icon Range des Weingutes. Der Wein stammt aus der südafrikanischen Region Western Cape, ist strahlend hell und hat eine blasse zitronige Farbe. Er prahlt mit einer Nase voller intensiver Pfirsich-, Blüten- und Zitronennoten. Diese Aromen setzen sich am Gaumen fort, mit frischen, knackigen Säuren, die perfekt mit festen Tanninen harmonieren. Die Fruchtaromen des Weins entfalten sich wunderbar und verweilen am mittleren Gaumen. Ein eleganter, abgerundeter Wein mit einer Struktur, die eine Lagerung von mindestens acht Jahren und mehr ermöglicht. The grapes were harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and fermented on the skins for a few days before being gently pressed. After fermentation, the wine matured in tanks until it was bottled.In the glass, this white wine has a pleasant yet full-bodied character and seductive aromas of honeybush tea. Dieser Weißwein aus Südafrika ist ein Blend aus überwiegend Chenin Blanc (49%) und Chardonnay (21%), assembliert mit kleineren Anteilen von Viognier, Sémillon und Sauvignon Blanc. Der Babylonstoren Candide ist eine Komposition aus allen weißen Rebsorten, die auf den Lagen des Weingutes heranreifen, das zwischen Paarl und Stellenbosch liegt.Das Bouquet ist anregend frisch-fruchtig. Der Candide duftet nach tropischen Früchten wie Ananas, Limetten und Melonen. Dazu kommen feinen Nuancen von Geißblatt, die den Duftstrauß abrunden. Am Gaumen ist dieser südafrikanische, Chenin Blanc-geprägte Wein trocken und zugleich herrlich knackig-frisch, mit mittlerem Körper und einem fruchtbetonten Aromenspiel sowie einer tragenden, frischen Säure. „Mit einer unterschwelligen Bienenwachs-Seidigkeit, die vom Sémillon herrührt“, formulieren die Macherinnen und Macher des Babylonstoren Candide. Das Finale ist anregend erfrischend.Viognier, Chardonnay und Sémillon wurden in französischen Eichenfässern zweiter und dritter Füllung vergoren und vier Monate auf der Hefe gelagert, bevor sie mit der frischen Chenin Blanc-Komponente assembliert wurden. This elegant Chenin Blanc from South Africa from the Babylonstoren winery shimmers in the glass in a pale straw yellow. The white wine has a stimulating, fresh and fruity aroma of white peach, guava, ripe pineapple, lemon curd and winter melon (wax gourd): a seductively multi-faceted bouquet.On the palate, the Babylonstoren Chenin Blanc is dry, crisp, fresh and wonderfully aromatic. The variety of tropical fruits is underpinned by aromas of gooseberries and pears. Masterfully balanced, with a fine play of acidity.A small proportion of this elegant South African white wine (10%) was matured in 4000-liter French oak barrels as well as in Nomblot concrete eggs and terracotta clay amphorae.Enjoy the Chenin Blanc at a drinking temperature of 10 to 12 degrees.
