The bouquet of the Freemark Abbey Chardonnay 2023 is fascinatingly multi-faceted: the Californian white wine smells of ripe apples, caramel, dried pineapple, nuts and lemon curd. The oak maturation adds notes of vanilla, cookie and baking spices.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown awarded 91 points for the Chardonnay from Napa Valley in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Her verdict on the bouquet: "It opens with impressive aromas of poached pears and apple pie, as well as nuances of ginger powder, honey toast and tangerine zest."
Dry, full-bodied, soft and lush on the palate. This Chardonnay from the USA also left a noticeable impression on James Suckling. He awarded the white wine from Freemark Abbey, located just over 100 kilometers north of San Francisco, 94 points and said: "Beautiful, dense Chardonnay with phenolic tension and layers of fruit. Full-bodied, with lots of complexity, nice intensity and tightness on the finish. Dried pineapple and a hint of tropical fruit and praline."
The Freemark Abbey Chardonnay 2019 matured for 9 months in French oak. New barrels were used for 40% of the maturation. Special food recommendations for this top wine: Enjoy it with scallops with a sesame and ginger dressing, grilled chicken breast or a pork fillet in a cream sauce, for example.
