Freemark Abbey ist eine Institution des Weinbaus im kalifornischen Napa Valley. Nicht zuletzt der Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon hat dazu beigetragen, dass die Weine aus dem Napa Valley weltweit zu den herausragenden Kreationen zählen. Auch im Jahrgang 2017 haben die Macherinnen und Macher von Freemark Abbey einen Cabernet Sauvignon komponiert, der von der internationalen Weinkritik gefeiert wird.

Der Rotwein aus den USA duftet eindrucksvoll vielschichtig nach Brombeeren, Kirschen und Milchschokolade. Das Bouquet wird darüber hinaus bereichert durch Noten von Zedern und Kräutern der Provence sowie süßlichen Eichennoten.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown vergibt in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 92 Punkte für den Freemark Abbey Cabernet. Ihre Worte: „Der Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offenbart frische Brombeeren, Schwarze Johannisbeeren und schwarze Pflaumen mit einem Hauch von dunkler Schokolade, Menthol und fruchtbarer Erde.“

Am Gaumen ist der dunkel-rubinrote Wein trocken und vollmundig, mit einem wunderbar angenehmen, weichen Mundgefühl. Intensive Aromen von Kirschen sind prägend. Der Blend aus überwiegend Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot und sehr kleinen Anteilen Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc besitzt eine großartige Textur, die Tannine sind meisterhaft eingebunden.  

James Suckling vergibt 93 Punkte und findet: „Aromen von Blaubeeren, Johannisbeeren und Blumen folgen einem mittleren bis vollen Körper, festen und seidigen Tanninen und einem köstlichen Abgang. Zeigt einige Haselnuss- und Walnuss-Untertöne. Sehr fein abgestimmt.“

Mehr als zwei Jahre reifte dieser edle Wein aus den USA im Eichenholz. Freemark Abbey, etwas mehr als 100 Kilometer nördlich von San Francisco gelegen, setzte dabei zu einem kleinen Anteil neue Fässer ein.

A fantastic wine that blends both elegance and powerPurple Angel showcases the spicy touches typical of Carmenère, with ripe, gentle and soft tannins, it’s a full bodied, concentrated wine that combines red berries and dark chocolate on the mouth with alluring cigar box, blackberries and plums aromas on the noseThe wine is blended with a touch of Petit Verdot to enhance its structure, color and cellaring potential. A mouth filling wine with a very long finish, definitely a unique Carmenère!Denomination of Origin: Purple Angel is a blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot from the Colchagua Valley. Winemaking: Grapes are carefully hand picked. The clusters go through a grape by grape selection made by hand with a team of 14 people, in which only good fruit is allowed into the tank.
