Es steckt viel im Namen dieses Weißweins von Dickens Family Wines. Ein südafrikanischer Chardonnay mit einer Vielschichtigkeit die ihresgleichen sucht. Der Winemaker Lionel Dickens schwärmte schon als kleiner Junge für die Natur und Landschaft seiner Heimat Südafrika. Da war es in gewisser Weise fast vorgegeben, dass er mit den Elementen der Erde arbeiten würde. In dem Produkt Wein fand er schnell sein Aktivitätenfeld. Nachdem er viele Jahre in verschiedenen Bereichen der Weinindustrie gearbeitet hat, hat Lionel Dickens damit begonnen seine eigenen Weine zu produzieren. Dabei lässt er sich von der klassischen Tradition inspirieren, versucht so wenig wie möglich in den natürlichen Prozess einzugreifen um Ausgewogenheit, Eleganz und vor allem eine interessante Herkunftsgeschichte der Weine widerzuspiegeln.

Der Dickens Unexpected Chardonnay zeigt definitiv die Kühle der Gegend Koekenaap. Diese eher unbekannte Weinregion Südafrikas liegt etwa 350 Kilometer nördlich von Kapstadt und wird von den kalten Winden des Atlantiks beeinflusst. Die Weinberge liegen in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Fluss Olifants River, was eine gute Wasserversorgung der Reben sicherstellt. Es handelt sich beim Unexpected Chardonnay um einen kalkigen und saftigen, vollmundigen Weißwein. Er zeigt gelbe Birne und Butterscotch mit einem Hauch von Zitrusgeschmack. Am Gaumen hinterlässt der Wein ein weiches, cremiges Mundgefühl.

Nachdem er viele Jahre in verschiedenen Bereichen der Weinindustrie gearbeitet hat, hat Lionel Dickens damit begonnen, im Weinkeller ein neues Kapitel zu schreiben. Seine Weine sind von der klassischen Tradition inspiriert – mit minimalem Eingriff hergestellt, um Ausgewogenheit, Eleganz und vor allem eine interessante Herkunftsgeschichte widerzuspiegeln.Für uns sind die Weine von Dickens „die“ Entdeckung des Jahres 2023 aus Südafrika.Der Dickens Tale of Three Wines besteht zu 98% aus Shiraz und zu jeweils 1% aus Mouverdre und Viognier. Die Trauben stammen zu 99% aus der südafrikanischen Region Franschhoek. Diese mehrdimensionale und komplexe rote Mischung zeigt vielschichtige Aromen von roten Beerenfrüchten, Veilchen und Gewürzen. Am Gaumen verbinden sich die Aromen von Beeren und Veilchen mit weichen, kalkhaltigen Tanninen zu einem konzentrierten und vollmundigen Wein. Der Wein reifte 18 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern.Der Dickens Tale of Three Wines kann sowohl pur als auch als Essensbegleiter genossen werden. Probieren Sie diesen Rotwein zum Beispiel zu gegrilltem rotem Fleisch und Wildgerichten.

The fact that this grape can be found all over the world is certainly also due to the fact that it is very adaptable. The grapes are processed separately according to the individual parcels of the vineyard. Only at the end of the vinification process is the final Chardonnay blend put together under strict quality selection. The wine then matures for 11 months in French barriques.The result has been impressing wine critics all over the world for years. The wine has a wonderful aroma of white pear, tropical fruit, vanilla and roasted almonds. On the palate, these notes blend into a perfect taste.
