CELLAR TREATMENT
Grown on mountain slopes, the grapes were picked at 23 - 25 °B. Fermented and matured on the lees for 9 months in a combination of new French and American small oak barrels, for added richness and flavour.

TASTING NOTES
The best selling white wine on the estate, and a multiple award winner. With complex fragrance and flavours of buttered toast, caramel and citrus, and a very long, lingering finish, it has the ability to age 2 - 3 years. A powerful wine, and the most food compatible one in Bergsig's range.

Bergsig Estate liegt im Tal des Breede River gut 100 Kilometer östlich von Kapstadt und befindet sich bereits in sechster Generation im Besitz der gastfreundlichen Winzerfamilie Lategan. Ihr jüngster Spross De Wet Lategan hat es sich auf die Fahnen geschrieben, die Gewächse des Estates nicht nur besonders gut, sondern noch jederzeit erschwinglich zu machen. „De Wet macht eine bewundernswerte Serie von wirklich preiswerten Weinen, die von Jahrgang zu Jahrgang noch besser werden“, bescheinigt ihm Südafrikas bedeutendster Weinkritiker John Platter. Und in der Tat dürfte es ausgesprochen schwierig sein, derart gute südafrikanische Estate-Weine zu günstigeren Preisen zu bekommen.

Der Hess Select Chardonnay kommt aus dem Monterey Valley in den USA. Die Weinregion heißt Ceres und die Trauben für den Op Die Berg Chardonnay stammen vom Witzenberg, der auf einer Höhe von 960 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel liegt. Die Region hat ein kontinentales Klima mit kühlen Nachttemperaturen und heißeren Tagestemperaturen während der Vegetationsperiode, das zu einer langsameren Reifung und mehr konzentrierter Frucht beiträgt. Der De Grendel Op Die Berg Chardonnay hat eine zitronenblasse Farbe mit klarer heller Durchsicht. In der Nase finden sich exotische Fruchtnoten, Gewürzaromen und eine leichte Vanillenote aus der 5-monatigen Reifung in französischen Barriquefässern. Am Gaumen wunderbar elegant und dezent, aber kraftvoll. Der Geschmack wird geprägt von konzentrierten Aromen von Kokosnuss, Ingwer und Marmelade von leichter Süße.
