The Hess Select Chardonnay comes from Monterey Valley in the United States. The vineyards of The Hess Collection are known for producing wonderfully structured, juicy Chardonnays with refreshing acidity year after year. This wine is part of the Hess Select Series, which is vinified with great care and passion by the most experienced winemakers and produces world-renowned Chardonnays from California.

In the glass, this single-varietal Chardonnay is yellowish with golden highlights. The bouquet is characterized by tropical fruits. This dry white wine is spicy and distinctly fruity, with aromas of green apples and notes of ripe pears, peaches, and citrus. Part of the wine is aged in barrique barrels, which imparts a lovely structure and subtle vanilla notes. On the palate, the Chardonnay is slightly creamy with an appealing freshness.

The Hess Select Chardonnay is a perfect pairing for seafood, crisp summer salads, or Asian dishes and should be served at a recommended temperature of 8–10 °C.

Der Lebenslauf von Donald Hess liest sich so, als hätte man ihn selbst gern gelebt. 1936 in Bern geboren, ließ er sich in München zum Braumeister ausbilden und übernahm nach dem frühen Tod seines Vaters die Brauerei in Bern.

1961 gründete er die Valser Mineralquellen AG und machte diese zur Nr. 1 in der Schweiz, bevor er sie an Coca Cola verkaufte. Die Erlöse aus seinen Geschäften investiert Donald Hess seit einigen Jahrzehnten parallel in seine zwei großen Leidenschaften: den Wein und die Kunst.

Heute nennt der zurückhaltende Schweizer neben der „Hess Collection Winery“ im Napa Valley, die „Glen Carlou Vineyards“ in Südafika, „Peter Lehmann Wines“ in Australien und die „Bodega Colomé“ in Argentinien sein Eigen. Vier Kellereien auf vier Kontinenten und jede von ihnen kann unzweifelhaft für sich in Anspruch nehmen, zu den Besten ihres jeweiligen Heimatlandes zu zählen.
