Le Moulin Rose de Malescasse is the second wine of Château Malescasse in the Haut-Médoc. Named after the estate’s historic windmill, the grapes for this cuvée come from plots in its immediate vicinity. The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot gives the wine a balanced and elegant style typical of the Médoc. Its silky texture makes it pleasantly approachable even in its youth.
The blend consists of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45.5% Merlot, and 5.5% Petit Verdot. After destemming, the grapes are selected by hand and vinified by plot in small wooden and concrete tanks. No pre-crushing is performed. The maceration period lasts up to four weeks, during which the tannins are gently extracted by carefully punching down the cap and performing brief pump-overs. The wine is then aged for twelve months, primarily in one- and two-year-old oak barrels, with one-third aged in large wooden tanks.
On the nose, the wine displays intense aromas of elderberries, black currants, blackberries, and fresh blue raspberries, accompanied by a subtle, gently integrated woody note. On the palate, it is lively and elegant, with fine tannins, good structure, and a long finish.
Le Moulin Rose de Malescasse pairs excellently with grilled or pan-seared beef, lamb, and game dishes. It is also a harmonious accompaniment to braised meats or aged hard cheeses.
