The Grüner Veltliner Ried Stein 1 ÖTW from the Bernhard Ott winery in Kamptal shows typical Kamptal characteristics: aromatic, soft, yellow-fruity, concentrated and mineral on the palate. Despite its maturity, it retains a certain slenderness and unfolds with complexity and depth - just like the historic site in which its vines are rooted.
The Ried Stein vineyard above Engabrunn is one of the most outstanding sites in the Kamptal. Southwest-facing slopes up to 350 meters above sea level, loess layers over a geological mosaic of Gföhl gneiss, old marine deposits and gravel deposits characterize this white wine. The cool microclimate and humus-rich soils give it freshness, minerality and structure.
The vines, which are over 50 years old, are carefully harvested by hand. After gentle processing in the basket press, spontaneous fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, followed by two winters of ageing in large Stockinger wooden barrels. The result is a wine with a dense, silky texture that carries elegant wood notes with restraint.
In the glass, the Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Ried Stein Erste Lage is multi-faceted with aromas of apple, ripe apricot, mango and fine citrus notes, accompanied by subtle tobacco nuances. The palate is juicy, concentrated and at the same time lean, supported by a fine acidity and salty minerality. The long aftertaste is reminiscent of ripe ringlots and underlines the expression of the terroir.
This Grüner Veltliner goes perfectly with veal, roasted poultry, fish with roasted aromas, mushroom dishes or classic Austrian cuisine such as Wiener Schnitzel and fried chicken. The wine develops optimally at a drinking temperature of 12-14 °C.
