Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Ried Stein Erste Lage

The Grüner Veltliner Ried Stein 1 ÖTW from the Bernhard Ott winery in Kamptal shows typical Kamptal characteristics: aromatic, soft, yellow-fruity, concentrated and mineral on the palate. Despite its maturity, it retains a certain slenderness and unfolds with complexity and depth - just like the historic site in which its vines are rooted.

The Ried Stein vineyard above Engabrunn is one of the most outstanding sites in the Kamptal. Southwest-facing slopes up to 350 meters above sea level, loess layers over a geological mosaic of Gföhl gneiss, old marine deposits and gravel deposits characterize this white wine. The cool microclimate and humus-rich soils give it freshness, minerality and structure.

The vines, which are over 50 years old, are carefully harvested by hand. After gentle processing in the basket press, spontaneous fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, followed by two winters of ageing in large Stockinger wooden barrels. The result is a wine with a dense, silky texture that carries elegant wood notes with restraint.

In the glass, the Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Ried Stein Erste Lage is multi-faceted with aromas of apple, ripe apricot, mango and fine citrus notes, accompanied by subtle tobacco nuances. The palate is juicy, concentrated and at the same time lean, supported by a fine acidity and salty minerality. The long aftertaste is reminiscent of ripe ringlots and underlines the expression of the terroir.

This Grüner Veltliner goes perfectly with veal, roasted poultry, fish with roasted aromas, mushroom dishes or classic Austrian cuisine such as Wiener Schnitzel and fried chicken. The wine develops optimally at a drinking temperature of 12-14 °C.

Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner FASS 4
The Grüner Veltliner FASS 4 from the Bernhard Ott winery in Wagram is a white wine with character and history. It all began in 1989, when Eduard Ott invited friends to a vintage tasting and the fourth barrel emerged as the favorite - a tradition that is still upheld today. For this white wine, small parcels are vinified separately and then blended into a harmonious cuvée. In this way, it is possible to capture the year in all its diversity and allow its special features to linger in the glass - in honor of father's legendary FASS number 4.The grapes come from village vineyards in Feuersbrunn, Gösing and Engabrunn. Vines up to 30 years old on loess, gneiss and gravel soils produce aromatic, structured grapes. They are harvested by hand, gently pressed and fermented spontaneously. Since 2018, part of the Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner FASS 4 has been matured in Stockinger wooden barrels, which lends depth, texture and character without masking freshness and elegance. In the glass, the wine is light yellow with greenish reflections. Apple and pear aromas are combined with the typical peppery spice, and the palate is characterized by a lively structure, minerality and a clear, animating finish. At a drinking temperature of 8-10 °C, the Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner FASS 4 goes perfectly with Wiener Schnitzel, fried chicken, fried fish or vegetable dishes - even slightly spicy Asian dishes harmonize perfectly.
