The Grüner Veltliner Ried Spiegel Erste Lage from the Austrian winery Bernhard Ott reflects the cool altitude of Feuersbrunn in its elegant aroma and fine structure. It is the most curious of the three single-vineyard wines: slender, lively and immediately accessible, yet always precise and animating.
The grapes come from vines that are over 50 years old, rooted in loess and gravel soils and planted facing east/west. Harvested by hand, gently processed in the basket press and fermented spontaneously, the Grüner Veltliner matures for two winters in large wooden barrels. This lends depth, texture and an elegant structure without masking the freshness and fine aromas.
In the glass, it is pale yellow with delicate greenish reflections. Fresh apple and pear notes are combined with subtle spice and mineral tension. On the palate, the white wine impresses with a lively structure, slender elegance and a precise, lingering finish.
At a drinking temperature of 8-10 °C, the Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Ried Spiegel Erste Lage unfolds its lively freshness particularly well with light poultry dishes, fine herb pastas, delicate asparagus or vegetable variations and mild goat's cheese. Summer salads or refined risottos are also an excellent match.
