With Professor Black Pitch Black, the South African winery Warwick combines the well-known Bordeaux grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec with the Cinsault variety, which is very common in South Africa. This combination may seem unusual at first, but it brings a very special red wine to the glass.The Cinsault gives this wine a penetrating freshness and liveliness. The Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black has a seductive aroma of wild strawberries, violets, dark berries and herbs. On the palate, there are expressive earthy aromas and various spicy notes. A wine with plenty of extract and depth from 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels. It impresses with fruity notes of plum and blackberry. The finish is extremely concentrated and lingers for a long time. If you give the wine a little time to breathe, it is ready to drink now, but will certainly continue to give pleasure for the next ten years.The Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black is an excellent accompaniment not only to classic roast lamb, but also to slow-cooked oxtail or a juicy steak.

Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc

The Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine aged in stainless steel tanks. The grapes come from two different plots located on the heights of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. One was planted in 1985, the other in 2003. The diverse harvest adds complexity, different flavors and structure to the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning and immediately transported to the cellar. Before pressing, the mash remains on the skins for 6-12 hours. Then the aromatic Sauvignon Blanc is fermented cold in stainless steel tanks. The 100 days of aging on the fine lees gives the Sauvignon melt.Produced in limited quantities, the Warwick Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc displays typical aromas of elderflower, nettle, passion fruit and lime. Lively and zesty on the palate with an abundance of passion fruit and lemon with a fresh lingering acidity.The name is a tribute to "Professor Black", a researcher who grew South Africa's first peaches on Simonsberg.Enjoy this wonderful wine simply solo or serve it with fresh oysters, salad with goat cheese or grilled trout.

Warwick The First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon

The Warwick First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep red color. On the nose, red berries and blackcurrants with a hint of herbs, complemented by vanilla and chocolate. The wine is smooth, full-bodied, with ripe tannins and good structure.The 100-percent Cabernet Sauvignon matured for 18 months in French oak barrels. With more than 20 hectares under cultivation, Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant grape at the family-run Warwick winery, which has a total area under cultivation of 56 hectares. The Ratcliffes quickly realized that the terroir in the Western Cape province was ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. Accordingly, the first wine that Norma Ratcliffe created was a Cabernet Sauvignon. This is why it bears the name "First Lady".The red wine goes well with roast lamb, stews and pork.
