Spier Signature Shiraz

The Spier Signature Shiraz comes from carefully tended vineyards in the Stellenbosch region.

A short fermentation at low temperatures gives the South African wine a strong character, with delicious fruit flavors. Two thirds of the wine is then matured for around six to eight months in a mixture of French and American oak, which rounds off the wine nicely and gives it extra complexity. Wood and fruit remain perfectly balanced.

In the glass, the Spier Signature Shiraz has a bright ruby red color. The nose is dominated by wonderfully intense aromas of sweet fruit, marmalade, rosemary and thyme. There is also a slightly peppery note. On the nose, the red wine is elegant, slightly spicy with light tannins. It is supported by a delicious vanilla aroma, berries, plums and pepper.

This dry red wine is a great combination with grilled beef, lamb and game, and is also delicious with duck and quail.

Spier Wines

Niel Joubert kaufte Spier 1965.

Neil Ellis Groenekloof Syrah
The Neil Ellis Groenekloof Syrah from the Groenekloof growing region on the Atlantic coast of South Africa combines a variety of notes of blackberries, blueberries, plums, cherries and violets on the nose. There are also nuances of white pepper, licorice and distinct roasted aromas. The purple-red wine is opulent on the palate, with well-integrated tannins, balanced acidity and a round texture. Allow the red wine to breathe for a while so that it can reveal its full range of aromas. The Neil Ellis Groenekloof Syrah comes from rather low-yielding bush vines, i.e. vines without wire frame training. The growing area is not irrigated. The Gronekloof Syrah from the Neil Ellis winery matures for 15 months in French oak.Enjoy this wine with pork belly and braised chicken.

Spier Signature Pinotage
By planting the pinotage grapes in rows in a north-easterly direction the grapes are not in the bright afternoon sun. This prevents them to develop a roasted and spicy aroma. And it helps even more that the sea is near, only 8 kilometer away. By low proceeds of 50 hectoliters per hectare the grapes get lots of intensity and the wine has enough strength and depth to let a part of it mature in wooden barrels. Fermentation at no more than 25 ° C ensures plenty of fruit. 40% of the wine matured in French oak barrels or American origin, making this a pleasant vanilla tasty Pinotage without sacrificing the fruit.
