On the nose, the Spier Signature Chardonnay Pinot Noir Rose offers stimulating notes of strawberries and yellow apple. It is wonderfully fresh on the palate, with a marvellously crisp acidity.

This rosé from South Africa comes from the Western Cape region. This blend has a slightly higher percentage of Chardonnay than Pinot Noir.

It was aged in stainless steel tanks and goes beautifully with salads with seafood or smoked salmon.

Spier Wines

Die Spier Wine Farm liegt in der weltberühmten Weinregion Stellenbosch in Südafrika, etwa 50 Kilometer von Kapstadt entfernt. Der Hof hat eine lange Geschichte, die zurückreicht bis ins Jahr 1692. Als einer der ältesten Höfe in der Region ist Spier für seine kapholländischen Giebelhäuser bekannt, eine besondere Form der Architektur. Auf den Ländereien des Weingutes Spier stehen gleich 21 gut erhaltene Häuser. Diese „Gables“ zeugen von den Einflüssen der Gründer aus dem mittelalterlichen Europa und sind eine wahre Attraktion in Südafrika.

Niel Joubert kaufte Spier 1965. Damals war es üblich, Wein für die größeren Genossenschaftskellereien, wie der Stellenbosch Farmers Winery und KWV, zu produzieren. 1971 begann er jedoch mit der Abfüllung seiner eigenen Weinmarken. 1993 ging der Hof in den Besitz von Dick Enthoven über. Unter seiner Führung begann eine umfangreiche Renovierung, um die historischen Gebäude der Farm zu erhalten. Die Wein-Produktion und ein breites Angebot an Freizeitaktivitäten sind heute das Kerngeschäft auf dem Hof. Spier ist in beiden Geschäftsfeldern für seine Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen bekannt.

Spier Signature Chardonnay

The grapes for the Spier Signature Chardonnay from the Western Cape region of South Africa are harvested by hand early in the morning from February to March. After hand-picking, they are pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected yeast strains, with only the best tanks being used later. In addition, only a small proportion is aged in new French oak barrels, which gives the wine a beautiful structure and complexity. You can expect a fresh, fruity Chardonnay with light vanilla notes.The dry white wine is light straw yellow in the glass with greenish reflections. On the nose, there are notes of grapefruit, lime, yellow apple, banana, pear and a hint of vanilla. This chenin blanc is made from young vines of five years old, which are perfect for a delicious and refreshing dry wine, with lots of fruit. Only when the stakes get older, the wines get more concentration. By keeping the proceeds low, the wine gets a really nice solid and mineral character.
