Duas Quintas Douro Clássico Tinto - Red 2023

Bright grenadine in colour with shades of violet.Mature aroma of forest fruit, blackberries, cherries, figs and cistus, with a floral hint. Smooth and fresh on the palate, with the length and expressive aromas characteristic of an Upper Douro wine.Handpicked grapes in 150-kilo crates, pressed, destalked and then fermented in steel vats at a temperature of no more than 25º. Maceration continues for long enough to produce a wine with the desired body and structure. Following malolactic fermentation in vats, 20% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels and the rest remains in the steel vats. The wine is bottled 18 months later.Excellent as an aperitif, it goes very well with soups, starters and salads. Also particularly recommended with dishes of fowl: roast chicken, duck risotto and quail, and with soft cheeses.

Deep, intense garnet colour with reddish reflexes. Clear and brilliant colour.Very intense aromas of red fruits with undertones of toasted sour cherry.Very ample in the mouth, with great body and structure, the palate is fresh and very elegant.Malolactic fermentation took place in barrels (including new and one fill barrels) and 6,200 litre casks, both of French oak. Ageing in wood lasted 20 months.Serve with richly flavoured dishes, game, and roasted cod. It pairs quite well with soft and pasty sheep’s milk cheeses.

On the nose, the wine develops opulent aromas of black cherry, ripe boysenberry and sweet baking spices, accompanied by subtle nuances of leather, black olives and cardamom. It is balanced and supple on the palate, with juicy fruit expression, silky tannins and subtle spice. The finish is long, characterized by dark cherry and fine spicy notes.The wine owes its special depth to careful ageing: 12 months in French oak, 40% of which is in new barrels and 60% in neutral barrels. This gives it structure and complexity without pushing the fruit into the background.The Decoy Merlot is a versatile companion that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with dishes such as braised beef, grilled lamb or spicy mushroom ragouts.
