The Villa de Corullón from Descendientes de J. Palacios comes from the Bierzo wine region in northern Spain and is one of the elegant and characterful red wines of the D.O. Bierzo appellation. It is made from 100% Mencía, the region’s flagship grape variety, which is known for its freshness, finesse, and aromatic complexity.
The vineyards are situated on steep terraces with slate-rich soils, which lend the wines of Bierzo their characteristic minerality and elegance. The grapes are carefully harvested to best preserve the quality and typical character of the grape variety.
In the glass, the Villa de Corullón displays an intense ruby red color. On the nose, a complex interplay of aromas unfolds, featuring red and black berries, floral notes of violets, spicy nuances, and a hint of anise, complemented by a subtle, earthy minerality. On the palate, the wine is balanced and elegant, with ripe tannins, pleasant structure, and harmonious depth. Ripe fruit flavors combine with floral hints and mineral freshness to create a long, round finish.
This Mencía pairs excellently with grilled lamb chops, aromatic mushroom dishes, or a creamy mushroom risotto. Game dishes such as venison or roe deer also benefit from its aromatic complexity. The aromas unfold best at a serving temperature of 16–18°C.
