Matsu El Viejo

The Toro region in northwestern Spain is renowned for intense and powerful wines. The Matsu El Viejo is additionally equipped with elegance and finesse, reflecting the flawless artistry of winemaking with the Tempranillo grape, which is known as Tinta de Toro in this region.

The Matsu El Viejo, which means ‘the old man’, is a selection of grapes from vineyards that are more than 100 years old. The vines in these low-yield vineyards are biodynamically cultivated. After the fermentation and the subsequent malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 16 months in French oak casks. The wine was deliberately not filtered, thus preserving its full aroma structure. The Matsu El Viejo is a deep cherry-red in the glass with purple glints on the rim. It has a wonderfully intense bouquet of black fruit. Due to the ageing in casks, the Matsu El Viejo shows roast aromas and notes of smoke and spices that are wonderfully structured and integrated. On the palate, the wine is fleshy, ripe and round. The noticeable but fine tannins give the El Viejo a light sweetness. The finish is once again characterised by the harmony between fruit and wood aromas.

The Matsu El Viejo is a typical accompaniment to meals, and stands up well to  hearty sauces and intensely flavoured grilled dishes. We recommend trying this amazing wine with blue cheeses.

Roda DOC Reserva
An excellent vintage in Rioja and an outstanding Roda. The composition of 89% Tempranillo, a proportion of Graciano and Garnacha smells wonderfully of sweet cherries, black fruits and nuances of Mediterranean herbs. Added to this is the wonderfully integrated oak. The deep red Roda DOC Reserva is lush and full on the palate. Very fruity at the beginning, with enormous balance and finely polished tannins. The finish of this dry red wine is again characterized by great, fresh fruitiness. The grapes come from bush vines that are more than 30 years old, i.e. vines that have not undergone wire-frame training. The Spanish wine was matured for 14 months in barriques, with 40% new and 60% second-fill barrels being used. The wine then matured for 30 months in the bottle. "This wine has the profile to become a great seller," writes Luis Gutierrez in the Wine Advocate.Discover the Roda DOC Reserva with medium to strong stews with chicken or beef, for example. Muga Reserva Rioja DOCa Magnum
The Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano grape varieties unite here to create the wonderful Muga Reserva Rioja. This red wine is redolent of blackberries and fennel, complemented by fine roast aromas and lovely nuances of vanilla, coffee and white chocolate. The Rioja is impressively full-bodied and aromatic on the palate, offering the fruitiness of berries, hints of menthol and an elegant acidity. The finish is long-lasting. The Muga Reserva Rioja matured for 24 months in oak casks (medium toast) and for at least another 12 months in the bottle. Wine critic Luis Gutiérrez is impressed by this wine and awards it 91 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: ‘It has the telltale aromas of spices and berry fruit, with the Muga signature and a medium-bodied palate with some dusty tannins that would welcome food.’ Try this Rioja with veal, cold cuts (pork) or rather hearty stews, for example. The wine is also available in 0.75- and 0.375-litre bottles.

Matsu La Jefa
The Matsu La Jefa is a white wine aged in wood from the D.O. Toro in Spain. Matsu comes from the Japanese and means "to wait".
