Waterford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Waterford Kevin Arnold Shiraz
The Shiraz (or Syrah) grape variety repeatedly achieves exceptional qualities in South Africa. The Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 is an impressive example of this. Winemaker Kevin Arnold is an avowed fan of the grape variety. He has also managed to create a Shiraz in the Blaauwklippen Valley in not too long a time (Waterford Estate was founded in 1998) that plays in the international premier league. The bouquet of the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz combines multi-layered notes of dark plums with intense floral notes of violets. Nuances of licorice and leather as well as subtle earthy tones and a fine spiciness round off the bouquet. On the palate, this South African red wine is dry and engaging, with well-structured, velvety-soft tannins. Meryl Weaver writes of "powerful but supple tannins" in John Platter's Wine Guide. She honors the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 with 92 points (4.5 out of 5 stars). Great balance and fine acidity. The finish is concentrated and cool, with a long aftertaste.6% Mourvèdre are part of the composition. The red wine from the Stellenbosch region matured for more than 20 months in French oak barrels. The fact that Waterford Estate associates something special with its Shiraz wines can also be seen in the fact that each wine is named after a child of the Ord and Arnold families, the owners of the wine estate. The Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz is dedicated to "Ashleigh Anne".

Delheim Grand Reserve 2018
In recent years, the Delheim Grand Reserve, the flagship wine from the top South African winery Delheim, has been a guarantor of top ratings from national and international wine critics. This South African red wine was rated in John Platter's Wine Guide with at least 90 points and 4.5 to 5 stars (out of a maximum of 5). And the 2018 vintage of Delheim Grand Reserve is also the result of exceptional winemaking. On the nose, this composition of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 10% Merlot is wonderfully intense and multi-faceted. The red wine from Stellenbosch combines notes of dark fruits (with blackberries and black currants predominating) with hints of tobacco and tomato leaf. There are also nuances of violets, blueberries and graphite. On the palate, Delheim Grand Reserve is dry and wonderfully elegantly balanced. The dark fruit aromas and the present tannins interact in a remarkable fashion, complemented by the delicately fresh acidity and a finish with nuances of vanilla that lingers for a good long while. The Bordeaux blend from South Africa matured for 18 months in 300-litre French oak barrels after meticulous manual harvesting of the best, healthiest grapes. Delheim attaches immense importance to using only wood that meets the highest quality standards. The Delheim Grand Reserve 2018 also stands out visually: it is a deep, dark purple in the glass with a cherry-red rim. The makers are justifiably proud of this creation and see a storage potential of up to 15 years. Enjoy this powerful, fruity red wine from the Stellenbosch region at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 degrees. It goes wonderfully with braised beef or game as well as grilled vegetables.

Rust en Vrede Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
The Rust en Vrede Cabernet Sauvignon shows to the highest degree what can be extracted from this grape variety. The carmine red color is complemented by violet reflections at the edges. The extremely elegant style of the wine, with an overwhelming volume and maturity, makes this wine from the Stellenbosch region something very special. The nose is characterized by black berries and red fruits. A light, spicy woody note can also be detected. Despite its powerful richness, the dry red wine is round, almost soft and very harmonious on the palate. The silky tannins are wonderfully integrated and perfectly support the notes of dried herbs, smoke and tobacco. Juicy blackcurrant and dark chocolate completely envelop the tongue. The complexity and spice are also expressed in the long-lasting finish. The Rust en Vrede Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was matured 100% in French barrels. Winemaker Coenie Snyman has succeeded in creating an expressive and profound South African wine. For special festive occasions, this goes well with almost any type of roast. It is also a delight in combination with cheese.
