Roodekrantz Donkermaan Chenin Blanc

The Roodekrantz Donkermaan Chenin Blanc comes from Stellenbosch - Helderberg and is produced by Roodekrantz as a boutique producer of artisanal, site-specific wines. The vines are planted on old, dry-farmed bush vines (planted in 1984) on sandy, weathered granite soil.

The grapes are harvested by hand in the early hours of the morning at optimum ripeness. After gentle pressing, the must is clarified overnight. The clear juice is transferred to used French oak barrels, where spontaneous fermentation takes place in wooden barrels. The wine then matures for a total of 11 months on the fine lees in used French oak barrels to develop structure, texture and depth, with a deliberately restrained influence of wood to preserve freshness and varietal character.

On the nose, the wine displays pure and elegant aromas of grenadilla, orange blossom, pineapple and fresh citrus zest, while on the palate it is focused and precise with a clear fruit-acid balance, revealing notes of peach, citrus and passion fruit. The style is light-footed and elegant with a pure fruit expression, the finish is long and fine with nuances of green apple and ripe stone fruit, characterized by clarity, finesse and purity.

Goes well with ceviche, grilled seafood, fresh salads and light Asian dishes as well as goat's cheese with honey.

Roodekrantz 1974 Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc
The Roodekrantz 1974 Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc comes from Agter-Paarl and is produced from 50-year-old, dry-farmed bush vines growing on weathered Malmesbury slate with granite components and some "Koffieklip". The wine combines the concentration of old vines with precision, freshness and fine texture. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and brought in at optimum ripeness in two harvests: the first harvest serves to preserve natural acidity, the second provides additional texture and mouthfeel. After destemming, gentle crushing and pressing, the must is fermented in used oak barrels. This is followed by extended ageing on the fine lees with regular batonnage, which creates additional depth and creaminess. The total ageing time in the older wooden barrels is 11 months. On the nose, the wine displays expressive aromas of ripe mango, yellow peach, papaya, melon and orange peel, accompanied by a fragrant note of white pear. On the palate, it opens with a gentle creaminess and attractive texture, giving it fine volume without appearing rich or opulent. A balanced acidity carries the generous fruit core and ensures freshness and clarity. The taste reflects the aromas of yellow and orange tropical fruit, which fade into a lingering, aromatic finish. A subtle hint of spice adds extra dimension. Harmonious, fruit-driven and superbly balanced, this Old-Vine Chenin Blanc displays purity, freshness and elegant texture.Pairs beautifully with roast chicken with citrus and herb butter, mild Cape Malay seafood curry, pork belly with caramelized apple and pear or grilled prawns with garlic, lemon and chilli. Also a harmonious accompaniment to Brie, Camembert or young goat's cheese.

Roodekrantz 1983 Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc
The Roodekrantz 1983 Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc comes from the Swartland and is made from 41-year-old, dry-farmed bush vines grown on weathered granite soils with organic material. The wine pays tribute to its origins and the age of the vines with a clear, precise style that focuses on fruit, freshness and finesse. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early hours of the morning at optimum ripeness. After destemming, gentle crushing and pressing, the must is clarified overnight. 90% of the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks, while 10% is fermented in two 500-liter French oak barrels. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is aged for three months on the fine lees to promote depth and character. A small portion matured in wood is then blended with the wine aged in stainless steel, which adds complexity and richness. On the nose, the wine displays aromatic notes of tropical and stone fruits such as white peach, pineapple, citrus zest and yellow apple, complemented by a subtle hint of corn kernel that adds depth. On the palate, it is clear and precise with soft, well-integrated acidity. A discreet wood influence adds dimension without overpowering the purity of the wine. The style is straightforward and focused rather than opulent, carried by clean tropical fruit and a fresh citrus accent on the finish. Composed, refreshing and true to the old vines, this Chenin Blanc stands for finesse, focus and pure fruit. An excellent accompaniment to grilled sea bream or king prawns with lemon and herbs, fresh salads with fennel and goat's cheese, light chicken dishes, sushi or sashimi as well as mild soft cheeses.
