The grapes for Die Filantroop from Paul Roos come from vines from the Rust en Vrede estate, one of South Africa’s most renowned wineries. The wine is a product of the Paul Roos Farming project (sales of the wines sold under this label go to funding the education of the workers’ children), which is supported by the famous winemaker Augustus Dale, known as Gus, who trained in Burgundy, France, and worked there for many years. This provides the advantage of uniting the viticulture of the Old World with the modern approaches of the New World.

This wonderfully structured red wine consists of 69% Shiraz and equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinotage. Its extremely intense bouquet offers aromas of red fruit and light notes of tobacco. The supple but strong tannins are harmoniously integrated. On the palate, Die Filantroop from Paul Roos pampers your senses with aromas of wild berries and mild pepper. The finish is characterised by subtle hints of spices and earthy notes, giving the wine its power. It has a high ageing potential.

By the way, the name ‘Die Filantroop’, which means ‘philanthropist’, says it all: This wine has the potential to become your ‘best friend’. Die Filantroop from Paul Roos goes perfectly with lamb or beef. It is also a good accompaniment to carpaccio of game.

Der Neethlingshof The Owl Post Pinotage hat eine tiefrote Farbe, eine komplexe Textur mit schwarzen und roten Früchten. Die Tannine sind wunderbar eingebunden und werden von einer feinen Säure unterstützt. Das Bouquet zeigt reife Fruchtaromen, unter anderem Banane. Im Hintergrund stellt sich eine schöne Vanillenote ein. Am Gaumen wiederholen sich Reife und Fruchtintensität. Der The Owl Post Pinotage ist reichhaltig und samtig. Der Rust en Vrede Estate ist ein Cuvee aus den Rebsorten Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah und Merlot. Der dominierende Cabernet gibt dem Wein herrliche Noten von schwarzer Johannisbeere und weiteren dunklen Früchten wie Heidelbeere. Der Syrah sorgt für eine schöne Würze mit erdigen Aromen. Der Merlot steuert sanfte florale Aromen von Veilchen und Jasmin bei. Eine Kombination, die am Gaumen wirklich Spaß macht. Die Farbe ist purpurrot und in der Nase finden sich Noten von frischem Leder, Tabak, Maulbeeren und Waldboden wieder. Der langanhaltende Abgang wird durch samtig weiche Tannine bestimmt.Der Rust en Vrede Estate reifte 18 Monate in 100% französischen Fässern, die mittelstark getoastet waren. This wine has a deep dark inky garnet colour with a touch of red brick evident on the rim. This is an intensely complex wine with intense dark berry fruit and crème de cassis notes on the nose. There is an inky heady dark character on the nose reminiscent of dark chocolate, cardamom spice and roasted fennel bulb. Always evident on this wine and a hallmark of every vintage is the hint of Eucalyptus or mint. The palate is full and rich mirroring most of what is evident on the nose. Displaying cocoa, mocha notes ripe berry fruits and a spicy grip. The tannins are broad and textured and leave the wine with a dry finish as well as there being a certain amount of freshness which results in the wine lingering on and on.Food pairing: Veal Osso Bucco or Grilled fillet steak served with red wine sauce, bone marrow, shallots and French fries.
