Ein Spitzenwein aus Franschhoek: Der Chamonix Troika ist ein Blend aus 49% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot und 13% Petit Verdot. Der rubinrote, trockene Wein duftet anregend nach Vanille, süßen, reifen Kirschen, Brombeeren und Gewürzen. Christine Rudman schreibt in John Platter’s Wine Guide von „Glänzenden Beeren, Gewürzen, Bleistift und Zigarrenkiste“. Sie vergibt stolze 93 Punkte (4,5 Sterne) für diesen herausragenden Rotwein aus Südafrika.

Am Gaumen ist der Chamonix Troika gut strukturiert, voll und rund, mit einer angenehmen Geschmeidigkeit. Wieder ist die tolle Beerigkeit merklich. Feine Harmonie und aromatische Länge. „Kreiert für die Lagerung im Keller, aber die Tannine sind zugänglich“, urteilt Rudman. Dieser Wein hinterlässt schon in jungen Jahren Eindruck, wird aber seine Hochzeit in 10 bis 15 Jahren erreicht haben.

Der „Bordeaux-Blend“ reifte für 18 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern, wobei zu 45% neue Fässer zum Einsatz kamen. Um die Komplexität des Weines zu erhöhen und die Vorzüge der einzelnen Rebsorten voll zur Entfaltung zu bringen, wurden die einzelnen Chargen erst kurz vor dem Abfüllen in die Flaschen assembliert. Der Langmeil Orphan Bank Shiraz ist einer der besten Rotweine von dem Weingut Langmeil. Dieser trockene Wein ist perfekt geeignet für Feinschmecker, die möglichst wenig Süße im Wein schmecken wollen. Im Bouquet des australischen Rotweines finden sich Noten von Brombeeren, Heidelbeeren und Pflaumen kombiniert mit Vanille, Bitterschokolade und Zimt. Im Glas zeigt der besondere Wein eine leicht dunkle rote Farbe. Wenn er erstmal am Gaumen angelangt ist, entfaltet dieser Wein seine fruchtige Seite. Im Abgang wirkt dieser Shiraz würzig.Die Herkunft des Weines liegt in Australien, in der Region Barossa. Dort werden die Reben per Hand ausgelesen und sofort gepresst.Der Langmeil Orphan Bank Shiraz ist ein reinsortiger Shiraz, der sich am besten mit Gemüse oder Rinderfrikadellen essen lässt. Auch getrocknete Feigen oder Kabeljau eignen sich gut als Begleiter.

‘Diesel Pinotage’ is certainly an unusual name for a wine. However, it is easily explained once you know the history behind it. ‘Diesel’ was the name of the dog of Beyer Truters, the owner of the Beyerskloof estate. The dog was his beloved, loyal and constant companion. Diesel was always at his side, whether in the vineyards, in the cellar or in his office, so it was only logical that Beyers Truters named his best wine after his ‘best’ friend.The grapes for the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage come from bush vines that are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. In South Africa, the bush vine method is often used specifically for Pinotage. The fermentation took place in open barrels for 5 days at an average temperature of 78.8° F, while the must was pressed down every 2 hours. Subsequently, the malolactic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the wine matured for 18 months in new French oak casks. Only 20 out of a total of 300 filled barrels were chosen to produce the Diesel Pinotage.The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is a deep purple in the glass. Its bouquet is characterised by complex aromas of blackberries and dark fruit, complemented by elegant notes of cedar wood. On the palate, the wine shows a fine but complex structure of black and red fruit. This Pinotage is truly a superb wine, captivating with its outstanding balance between fruit and wood. This wine has an outstanding ageing potential and it is expected to be a genuine delight over the next 10 years or even longer.It is an ideal accompaniment to spicy Indian cuisine or a well-matured rump steak. The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is arguably one of the best Pinotage wines from the Cape.
