With the Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noir, Bouchard Finlayson presents the pinnacle of its Pinot Noir production. This exclusive bottling is produced only in years when the climatic conditions in the renowned Hemel-en-Aarde Valley provide ideal conditions for the perfect ripening of this demanding grape variety. Consequently, this wine is produced only rarely. It represents a careful selection of the estate’s finest Pinot Noir barrels and is considered the winery’s most promising wine.
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley on South Africa’s Walker Bay is one of the world’s premier regions for Pinot Noir. The interplay of a cool maritime climate and diverse soil types lends the wines remarkable elegance, depth, and finesse. Pinot Noir, in particular, impressively demonstrates its ability to precisely reflect its origin and terroir here.
For the Tête de Cuvée, the winery team selects only the very best lots. After vinification, the wine is aged in carefully selected French oak barrels, some of which are new. The limited number of barrels used underscores the exclusive character of this wine. The Pinot Noir is then given ample time to age so that it can fully develop its complexity and great aging potential.
In the glass, the Bouchard Finlayson Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noir displays impressive depth and precision. On the nose, intense aromas of pomegranate, red cherries, and ripe plums blend with floral hints and subtle spice notes. On the palate, this red wine is elegant and multi-layered. The silky, superbly integrated tannins lend it structure and length, while its freshness and focus ensure exceptional balance. Power and finesse are in perfect harmony here, making this Pinot Noir a wine with great aging potential.
This exceptional Pinot Noir is the ideal companion for festive occasions and special moments. It pairs superbly with shellfish or lobster risotto, roasted duck breast with crispy skin, and classic turkey with cranberry sauce. It also reveals its full class when paired with veal dishes or delicate mushroom dishes. Its optimal serving temperature is 16 to 18 °C.
The Bouchard Finlayson Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noir is an impressive ambassador for the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and ranks among South Africa’s outstanding Pinot Noir wines. Its elegance, depth, and rarity make it a special treat for lovers of great Burgundy-style wines and sophisticated Pinot Noirs.
