The Blaauwklippen Zinfandel is a wonderfully complex red wine from South Africa. The bouquet alone opens the enjoyment with a small feast of sensory impressions. Notes of sour cherries and ripe cranberries interact harmoniously with notes of dark chocolate, licorice, allspice and cinnamon.
The Zinfandel grape variety (also widely known and popular as Primitivo, especially in the "Italian version") is synonymous with characterful, spicy red wines. Blaauwklippen, whose viticultural history dates back to the late 17th century, is a master at bringing out the full potential of Zinfandel in the Stellenbosch vineyards.
On the palate, the Blaauwklippen Zinfandel is dry, powerful and hearty. The distinctive tannins are skillfully integrated. "Strong but well-integrated oak" is the verdict of Greg de Bruyn in John Platter's Wine Guide. He awards four out of five stars for this South African Zinfandel.
A fine mineral note, subliminal tobacco aromas and a fresh, concentrated finish round off the enjoyment.
the Zinfandel matured for 12 months in French oak barrels (300 liters), 27% of which were new barrels. Enjoy this red wine with dark meat or duck. This blend from Blaauwklippen is also a very good choice with a delicate curry or mature hard cheese.
