The Paolo Manzone Barolo Meriame 2021 is a top-class Italian red wine. Given the circumstances, it is only logical and yet remarkable what the renowned Paolo Manzone winery has once again created here.
The grapes for the Barolo come entirely from the Meriame vineyard, where the vines are 70 years old. Here, berries ripen with a great concentration of aromas that make this Nebbiolo so impressive.
The bouquet is fascinatingly complex. Notes of dark cherries, blackberries, wild strawberries and mulberries in the foreground. They harmonize wonderfully with subliminal tones of dried rose petals, liquorice, tar, coffee, vanilla and spicy oak. Nuances of leather and balsamic vinegar round off the variety of aromas.
On the palate, this red wine from Piedmont is dry, full-bodied and powerful. With great concentration and balance of fruit, tannin and wood as well as noticeable but skillfully integrated tannins. The interplay of aromas is a delight. There are also hints of cherries and licorice, especially on the finish.
The ruby-red Barolo matured for 24 months in oak, at least 50% in large Slavonian wooden barrels (1,500 liters), the rest in French tonneaux (350 liters), of which around a third were new barrels.
Discover the Paolo Manzone Barolo Meriame at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 degrees. This exceptional red wine is of course a pleasure in its own right, but is also the perfect accompaniment to spicy charcuterie such as bresaola (air-dried beef ham from Italy) or salami. It is also a good choice for a hearty stew with beef.
