Farnese Fantini Calalenta Pecorino Terre di Chieti Bianco

Fantini Calalenta Pecorino Terre di Chieti Bianco is an elegant white wine from Abruzzo, made exclusively from the indigenous Pecorino grape variety. This grape, which has been rediscovered in Italy, produces wines full of character with a lively freshness and fine minerality. The vineyards around Ortona, with their calcareous clay soils and coastal climate, offer the best conditions for the development of intense fruit aromas and a clear structure.

The grapes are harvested during the cool night - hence the name "Calalenta" ("slowly falling temperature") - and then pressed at a low temperature. Around 80% of the must ferments in stainless steel tanks, while 20% is aged in large wooden barrels to give the wine a fine spiciness and depth. Maturation on the fine lees also ensures a harmonious, soft mouthfeel.

In the glass, the Pecorino is a pale straw yellow with greenish reflections. The nose reveals intense aromas of white peach, pear and citrus, complemented by floral notes and a hint of herbs. On the palate, the wine is fresh and balanced, with invigorating acidity and a finely structured, fruity finish.

This wine is ideal as an aperitif, but goes equally well with seafood, grilled fish or light pasta dishes. It is also a harmonious accompaniment to Asian dishes or mild cheese. Fantini Calalenta Pecorino is a versatile and modern white wine that combines the tradition of the region with a contemporary style.

The so-called trabucco was a new type of fishing device that was possibly imported from the Middle East. Literary sources from the 18th century report how this traditional pile construction quickly became typical for fishing on the Adriatic coast. The trabucco was originally built exclusively from wood and enabled fishermen to work even in the worst weather conditions. It provides a platform above the sea, anchored in the coastal rock, with long arms holding a large sinking net called a "trabocchetto". It was an ideal device for intercepting the fish currents that came with the sea currents.
