The Van Volxem Pinot Blanc Gutswein Barrique trocken impressively demonstrates how much expression and character this grape variety can develop on the Saar. The grapes come from selected plots in Wawern, where the vines are rooted in classic slate steep slopes, some of which are interspersed with limestone and pebble soils. This terroir gives the wine an exciting combination of freshness, minerality and fullness.
The wine is matured entirely in wooden barrels according to the French model. Barrels from the renowned Austrian cooper Franz Stockinger, who made them from oak from the family's own Eifel forests, are used. This careful barrel ageing, combined with one year of yeast storage, gives the wine impressive length, structure and a warm, harmonious core.
The Pinot Blanc is aromatically complex and finely nuanced. Yellow-fruity aromas are in the foreground, accompanied by a subtle herbal spiciness, elegant melting and silky caramel notes. On the palate, it is creamy, dense and mineral at the same time - a wine that combines power and finesse.
With its versatility, this Pinot Blanc is an ideal accompaniment to food. It harmonizes wonderfully with poultry, veal or fine fish dishes, but also goes well with pasta, fine vegetables or mild cheeses. A white wine full of character that not only reflects its origin, but also the craftsmanship that goes into every detail.
