Dieses liegt unter anderem daran, dass die Trauben von 40 Jahre alten Buschreben stammen und in der südafrikanischen Region Stellenbosch hervorragende Wachstumsbedingungen finden. Die Gärung und Reifung wurde unter Verwendung von gebrauchten französischen Eichenfässern vorgenommen um die zarte Frucht des Chenin Blanc zu schützen. Es wurde bewusst auf eine Filtration vor dem Abfüllen verzichtet um die aromatische Frucht in vollem Umfang zu erhalten.
 
Der Family Reserve Chenin blanc von Kleine Zalze zeigt in der Nase Noten von weißen Blüten und Quitte. Der Wein duftet intensiv nach Aprikose, Zitrone, Melone und Honig. Am Gaumen extrem komplex mit gut integrierter Eiche. Im Abgang ein Hauch von Mineralität.

Der Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Chenin blanc eignet sich hervorragend als Essensbegleiter. Dabei ergänzt er sowohl deftige Vorspeisen als auch helle Fleischgerichte und gut gewürzte Fischspeisen.

Die Gärung fand sehr langsam bei einer Temperatur von etwa 13 Grad Celsius statt. Durch den Verbleib des Saftes für mehr als 7 Monate auf der Hefe entwickelte sich eine wunderbar vielschichtige Aromatik. Delheim Chenin Blanc has a fresh colour with a green tint. The wine shows complexity from the natural fermentation with an array of flavours. Grapefruit, orange and white peaches on the nose with subtle savoury and oak flavours. The refined and elegant palate shows restraint, with lengthy tannins and sweet fruit that will complement a variety of dishes. The grapes were handpicked, followed by crushing, de-stemming and gentle pressing. Only two thirds of the juice was settled with enzymes; the balance was taken directly to barrel for fermentation. One third of the blend was fermented cold in concrete tanks, the other two thirds in barrel. Only natural fermentation took place. The wine in the concrete tanks spent 7 months on the lees with the balance aging in French oak barrels for 7 months. A combination of 225 and 500L barrels were used of which 20% were new.Suitable for vegans.
