This limited blend of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah grape varieties matured for 18 months in barriques, with 27% new American oak being used. The bouquet of the Hess Collection Maverick Cabernet Sauvignon Cellar Reserve Passo Roble is wonderfully complex, with notes of blackcurrants, plums, blueberries and black cherries. On the palate, this dark ruby red cuvée is full and balanced, with ripe tannins and a great balance of minerality (licorice aromas) and a fruity sweetness. The long-lasting finish is characterized by juicy aromas of dark fruits as well as notes of dark chocolate and fine vanilla aromas. A red wine from the USA with outstanding complexity.

Der Lebenslauf von Donald Hess liest sich so, als hätte man ihn selbst gern gelebt. 1936 in Bern geboren, ließ er sich in München zum Braumeister ausbilden und übernahm nach dem frühen Tod seines Vaters die Brauerei in Bern.

1961 gründete er die Valser Mineralquellen AG und machte diese zur Nr. 1 in der Schweiz, bevor er sie an Coca Cola verkaufte. Die Erlöse aus seinen Geschäften investiert Donald Hess seit einigen Jahrzehnten parallel in seine zwei großen Leidenschaften: den Wein und die Kunst.

Heute nennt der zurückhaltende Schweizer neben der „Hess Collection Winery“ im Napa Valley, die „Glen Carlou Vineyards“ in Südafika, „Peter Lehmann Wines“ in Australien und die „Bodega Colomé“ in Argentinien sein Eigen.
