Ein erstklassiger Zweitwein: Der Belondrade Quinta Apolonia ist sozusagen der kleine Bruder des berühmteren Belondrade y Lurton. Was aber Qualität und auch Beliebtheit angeht, ist der Abstand zwischen diesen beiden Spitzenweinen aus Spanien nicht groß. 92 Punkte in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate für den Belondrade Quinta Apolonia im Jahrgang 2023 sind ein deutlicher Fingerzeig, dass dieser reinsortige, junge Verdejo ein wunderbares Geschmackserlebnis ist.

Der spanische Weißwein duftet anregend nach Pfirsich und Aprikose, dazu Noten von exotischen Früchten wie Litschi und Maracuja. Im Hintergrund florale Nuancen sowie unterschwellige Anklänge von Zitrusfrüchten. Weinkritiker Luis Gutiérrez schreibt im Wine Advocate von einer „ausdrucksstarken Nase mit Pfirsich und Lorbeer, dazu etwas Rosenblätter, ein wenig exotisch mit Noten, die an Moscatel oder gar Gewürztraminer erinnern“.

Am Gaumen ist der Verdejo trocken und angenehm weich, mit kraftvollen Aromen und zugleich einer eindrucksvollen Frische. Die Ausgewogenheit von nuancierter Frucht, feiner Säure und hintergründigen Eichenholz-Aromen machen den Belondrade Quinta Apolonia zu einem kleinen Fest für die Sinne. Der Weißwein hallt noch länger nach.

Der goldgelb strahlenden Verdejo von Belondrade, etwa 180 Kilometer nordwestlich von Madrid im Anbaugebiet Castilla y León gelegen, wurde zu einem Drittel im Barrique fermentiert und zu zwei Dritteln in Edelstahl und Beton. Belondrade gehört zu den renommiertesten Weingütern der spanischen Weinregion Rueda und gilt als Wegbereiter eines neuen Stils hochwertiger Verdejo-Weine. Gegründet wurde das Weingut 1994 vom Franzosen Didier Belondrade, der das Potenzial der heimischen Verdejo-Rebsorte erkannte und sie nach dem Vorbild großer Burgunderweine vinifizieren wollte. Sein Ziel war es, einen charaktervollen Weißwein zu schaffen, der das Terroir der Region authentisch widerspiegelt. Schon der erste Jahrgang von Belondrade y Lurton machte das Weingut international bekannt und setzte neue Maßstäbe für die D.O. Rueda.

Die Weinberge der Finca Quinta San Diego in La Seca werden heute ökologisch bewirtschaftet und umfassen zahlreiche Parzellen mit unterschiedlichen Bodenstrukturen. Jede Parzelle wird separat gelesen und ausgebaut, damit sich die Vielfalt des Terroirs bestmöglich herausarbeiten lässt. Spontangärung mit natürlichen Hefen, der Ausbau in französischen Eichenfässern sowie eine sorgfältige Assemblage verleihen den Weinen Tiefe, Eleganz und ein außergewöhnliches Reifepotenzial.

Heute steht Belondrade für elegante, terroirgeprägte Weine mit unverwechselbarer Handschrift. Besonders bekannt ist das Weingut für seinen im Barrique ausgebauten Belondrade y Lurton, der zu den bedeutendsten Verdejo-Weinen Spaniens zählt. In der Zwischenzeit wurde der 26zigste Jahrgang des Belondrade y Lurton hergestellt. Auch der aktuelle Jahrgang zeigt wieder die ganze Kunst des Weinmachens von Belondrade. Mit etwa nur 100.000 Flaschen immer noch eine überschaubare Produktionsmenge ist dieser Weißwein aus Rueda bereits weltweit etabliert. Auf insgesamt 23 biologisch bewirtschafteten Parzellen des Weinbergs Quinta San Diego wachsen die Trauben für diesen außergewöhnlichen Wein. Der Belondrade y Lurton überzeugt durch ein vielfältiges Aromenspiel in der Nase. Am Gaumen herrlich frisch und elegant. Ungewöhnlich für einen fassgereiften Verdejo ist die unverwechselbare Typizität nach exotischen Früchten und cremigen Holznoten. Schöne Balance zwischen Frucht und Gerbstoffen mit einer weichen, aber festen Struktur. Die moderate Säure verleiht dem Belondrade y Lurton eine anhaltende Komplexität, die im Abgang mit einem süßen Schmelz endet.Der Belondrade y Lurton passt hervorragend zu kräftigen Salaten oder leichten Fischgerichten. Duas Quintas Douro Clássico Tinto - Red

The Duas Quintas Douro Red has a bright, grenadine-red color with violet nuances.Ripe aromas of wild berries, blackberries, cherries, figs and cistus, with a floral note.Smooth and fresh on the palate, with the length and expressive flavors that are characteristic of an Alto Douro wine.The grapes are harvested by hand in 150 kg crates, pressed and destemmed and then fermented in steel vats at a temperature of no more than 25º. Maceration lasts long enough to produce a wine with the desired body and structure. After malolactic fermentation, 20% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels and the rest remains in the steel tanks. The wine is bottled 18 months later.Excellent as an aperitif, with soups, starters and salads. Also particularly recommended with poultry dishes: Roast chicken, duck and quail risotto, and with soft cheeses.

Aalto

There are quite a few people who claim that Aalto wines represent the best of Spanish viticulture in the Ribera del Duero region. Every year, the Aalto wines are once again compared to those produced by the Vega Sicilia estate, and the Aalto wines often win by a nose. For more than 30 years, Mariano García Fernández, the founder of the Aalto winery, was responsible for the wines produced by the Vega Sicilia estate, of which he was the Technical Director. With his own Bodega Aalto, García Fernández wants to achieve the best result without losing respect for the grapes. In creating his wines, he strives for the maximum expression of the terroir, uniting structure and power with elegance and complexity. The Aalto was characterised by a warm winter’s end and an early spring with early flowering. Sufficient rain in summer and a dry autumn led to grapes of an optimal quality. The grapes come mainly from very old vines that are up to 80 years old.The pure varietal Tempranillo (in the Burgos and Valladolid region better known as Tinto Fino) is a cherry red in colour. The wine offers fine notes of spices on the nose, along with light flavours of well-integrated wood. On the palate, the Aalto is wonderfully fresh and dense. Notes of tobacco, coffee and subtle aromas of liquorice reveal the unique style so typical of this Aalto. Due to its soft and round character, the wine can already be enjoyed young. Owing to the soft, enclosing tannins and a good acidity, the Aalto will increase its complexity over the coming years. The ageing of the wine in half new and half used barrels ofAmerican and French oak ensures that it will store well in the bottle. Enjoy the Aalto with a lovely beef roast or simply on its own in front of the fireplace.

The Barrica Monastrell Syrah comes from the Barahonda winery in the Spanish wine-growing region of Yecla. The blend consists of 75% Monastrell and 25% Syrah. The vines of this red wine are 40 to 45 years old and grow on calcareous soils at an altitude of between 500 and 800 meters. The Barahonda Barrica Monastrell Syrah has a ruby red color that shines bright and clear in the glass. The nose reveals an intense bouquet of ripe fruit, spices, light vanilla notes and some cedar wood. A strong minerality dominates the palate. A wine full of juice and power with notes of pepper and cloves. Matured in French and American oak barrels for a period of around 6 months, the finish is strong and round with a taste of vanilla and some leather.Try the Barahonda Barrica Monastrell Syrah with roast poultry, minced steak or paella. The Pio Cesare Gavi DOCG is an Italian white wine made from 100% Cortese grapes. The Pio Cesare winery, which has been in the family for five generations, has been producing outstanding red and white wines in Piedmont since 1881, taking care to treat the vineyard with the greatest possible care, with minimal intervention in nature. This Côtes du Rhône Villages AOP is an extraordinary wine. The team of the La Nerthe winery, which has been based in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region since the 14th century, maintains the Les Cassagnes vineyards located in Sérignan-du-Comtat, France. The grapes for this wine are selected exclusively from the best parcels of land. The soil consists of sand, clay and limestone, providing natural filtration and creating full-bodied, well-balanced wines.The grapes come from vines with an average age of more than 40 years. This cuvée consists mainly of Grenache Noir, Shiraz and a smaller percentage of Mourvèdre.The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a further selection process upon arrival in the cellar. Subsequently, the grape varieties are fermented separately for a period of three weeks. The extraction is carried out very carefully in order to maintain the fruit aromas and to preserve a good tannin structure. Before bottling, the wine finally matures for 9 months in stainless steel tanks, remaining in contact with the yeast.The Les Cassagnes AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge is a deep, dark red in colour. On the palate, it impresses wine connoisseurs with an appealing body that’s not overly full, showing a very silky texture. Aromas of red berries, wonderful notes recalling perfume and sweet nuances of spices lead to an exquisite, prolonged finish.Served at a drinking temperature of 14-16°C (57.2-60.8 °F), the Les Cassagnes goes beautifully with grilled lamb or beef, pasta Bolognese or ratatouille. We recommend enjoying this wine with ‘Tian’, a vegetable gratin speciality from the Provence region, made of tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, thyme and oregano. Simply delicious!

Langer Abgang!Die besten Trauben von kleinen Wachauer Terrassenweingärten werden für die hochwertigen Rieden-Cuvées dieser Serie selektioniert. Von unterschiedlichen Lagen zwischen Loiben und Spitz kommt Grüner Veltliner für diese Terrassen-Abfüllung. Ziel ist es, einen typischen Wachauer Stil, geprägt durch das besondere Klima und den Urgesteins-Boden, zu repräsentieren.Grüner Veltliner ist mittlerweile eine international anerkannte Top-Rebsorte. Bei entsprechender Behandlung im Weingarten sind Weine von großem Format möglich, so auch Smaragde wie dieser. Grüner Veltliner bietet ein breites geschmackliches Spektrum. Selbst bei dichten und substanzreichen Weinen bleibt die Eleganz durch eine feste und reife Säure erhalten. Qualitätskategorie Smaragd ist die höchste Kategorie in der Wachau. Die prächtige Smaragdeidechse, die sich auf den Wachauer Urgesteinsmauern sonnt, stand dieser Weinkategorie Namenspate: trockene, dichte, komplexe Weine mit Wachauer Finesse ab 13,0% Alkoholgehalt und großem Lagerpotential.Eine nur händisch durchzuführende und mühsame Bearbeitung der steilen Steinterrassen-Weingärten und der karge Boden reduzieren den Ertrag auf unter 6.000 kg/ha. Grüner Veltliner Trauben für diesen Wein wurden Ende Oktober bis Anfang November geerntet. Nach der Gärung in Edelstahltanks bei kühlen Temperaturen wurde der Wein nach anfänglicher Lagerung im Stahltank kurze Zeit im großen Holzfass ausgebaut.Ideal bei gekühlter Serviertemperatur frisch aus dem Kühlschrank passt der Wein zu gebratenem Fisch und zu Fisch in cremigen Saucen, zu gebackenen Gerichten, zu Tafelspitz, zu Innereien und gebratenem hellen Fleisch. Schon in der Jugend sehr zugänglich, aber auch 4-6 Jahre lagerfähig.
