Be Solo DO

It is not always clear at first glance what exactly is behind a wine. This is also the case with Sei Solo. Javier Zaccagnini, former founder and owner of the famous Bodegas Aalto, founded his personal project in 2007. He bought around 3 hectares of vineyards near his favorite village of La Horra in the Ribera del Duero region. His aim was to bring the finesse and elegance of the Ribera del Duero into his wines, without the wines losing their backbone and tannin structure. Javier Zaccagnini is a lover of classical music and particularly admires Johann Sebastian Bach. He derived the name for his wines from the six sonatas for violin and obbligato harpsichord (Sei Sounate à Cembalo certato è Violino Solo).

Sei Solo is a top-class Spanish red wine that is dark purple-red in the glass. The nose reveals particularly aromatic fruit notes of plum and blackberry. The wine smells of Mediterranean herbs, cocoa and subtle roasted aromas. A hint of licorice completes the whole. On the palate, Sei Solo is powerful and complex, with an exceptional freshness that you would not expect from such a wine. The balance between velvety tannins and rich fruit characterizes the mouthfeel.

Elegant and full of finesse, Sei Solo pairs wonderfully with lasagne, mature cheese, lamb and braised dishes.

Product recommendation

Preludio de Sei Solo DO

Roda DOC Reserva
An excellent vintage in the wine-growing region of Rioja and an outstanding Roda wine. This blend, consisting of  93% Tempranillo, a 3% of Graciano and a 4% of Garnacha, has a wonderful bouquet offering notes of sweet cherries, black fruit and nuances of Mediterranean herbs, complemented by perfectly integrated oak aromas. On the palate, the deep red Roda DOC Reserva is sumptuous and full-bodied. Initially, the wine is very fruity, showing an enormous balance and fine tannins. Its finish is once again characterised by a great, fresh fruitiness. The grapes come from bush vines that are more than 30 years old. These vines are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. The wine matured for 14 months in barriques, of which 40% were new and 60% were second-fill barrels. Afterwards, it was aged for another 30 months in the bottle. Luis Gutierrez writes in the Wine Advocate: ‘This wine has the potential to become a real bestseller.’You’ll want to discover the Toda DOC Reserva with moderate or hearty stews with chicken or beef, for example. Bodegas Mas Alta La Creu Alta Priorat DOCa

Aalto PS
How do you make an excellent wine even better? For Mariano García Fernández, the founder of the Bodega Aalto estate, this can be achieved only by selecting the best grapes. The selection of the grapes was carried out parcel by parcel. This explains the wine’s ‘PS’ designation, which stands for ‘parcel’ and ‘selection’. Only the grapes from the best parcels with the oldest vines are selected to produce the Aalto PS. The grapes for this pure varietal Tempranillo come partly from vines that are more than 60 years old. The vines grow on soils with lime and slate subsoils, giving the wine a lovely mineral freshness. The wine is aged in steel tanks before it matures for 21 months in new French barriques. Subsequently, the wine is aged for another 6 months in used casks. The Aalto PS is a dark, dense purple in colour. Its bouquet is characterised by strong notes of wood and flavours of plums and black cherries. On the palate, the wine is extremely complex, concentrated and powerful. The body continues unabated in a never-ending finish. Although the wine is already quite balanced, further ageing in the bottle will certainly enhance its quality. Serve the Aalto PS with lamb, game or tangy cheeses. This wine is a genuine delight! It is also available in a magnum bottle.
