With its deep, dark red color and seductive spicy aromas, the Eikehof Shiraz shows its full personality. Coming from the traditional Eikehof Wine Estate in Franschhoek, it reflects the more than 120-year history of the Malherbe family, who have been running the estate since 1903 in the fourth generation.

The nose seduces with aromas of white pepper, fine spices and dark berries, which combine harmoniously to create an elegant bouquet. On the palate, the Eikehof Shiraz is full-bodied and structured, with a round, soft texture that brings out the concentration of the grapes to optimum effect.

Serve this red wine at 16-18 °C with grilled or braised meat, game dishes, spicy cheese or simply as a full-bodied companion for special moments of pleasure.

Meryl Weaver writes of "powerful but supple tannins" in John Platter's Wine Guide. She honors the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 with 92 points (4.5 out of 5 stars). Great balance and fine acidity. The finish is concentrated and cool, with a long aftertaste.6% Mourvèdre are part of the composition. The red wine from the Stellenbosch region matured for more than 20 months in French oak barrels. The fact that Waterford Estate associates something special with its Shiraz wines can also be seen in the fact that each wine is named after a child of the Ord and Arnold families, the owners of the wine estate. She awards the Shiraz from the Cape 4 out of 5 stars in John Platter's Wine Guide.The bouquet combines intensely fruity notes of blackcurrants and cherries with spicy notes of black and white pepper and leather. The bouquet is underpinned by perfectly harmonizing woody notes. Rudman chooses these words: "Wonderfully perfumed, elegant berries and cherries, mixed spices with white pepper."The Babylonstoren Shiraz is dry on the palate, with a full body and supple, masterfully integrated tannins. The aromatic complexity is wonderful: flavours of cherries, plums and blackcurrants in fine interplay with nuances of chocolate and an underlying spiciness. The Eikendal Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot is a powerful red wine cuvée in the classic Bordeaux style - full of character, full-bodied and typical of the renowned Stellenbosch wine region. The nose is dominated by ripe aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants, complemented by notes of cassis and a subtle earthiness, which are particularly typical of Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the wine impresses with concentrated, fleshy fruit, fine-meshed tannins and a perfect balance of fruity richness and spicy, sweetish toasted aromas of French oak.The grapes come from high-altitude vineyards on mineral-rich "Koffieklip" soil with a clay subsoil - ideal conditions for complex, long-lasting wines. The vines, planted in 2004, are trained using the vertical shoot position system with sparse irrigation in order to achieve particularly concentrated berries. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand into small crates, followed by cold maceration, spontaneous fermentation and gentle pressing. The wine matures for 12 months in 300-liter French oak barrels (15% of which are new) before being bottled unfiltered.This elegant cuvée harmonizes perfectly with beef carpaccio, braised beef rib or a creamy curry dish.
