Eikehof Shiraz

With its deep, dark red color and seductive spicy aromas, the Eikehof Shiraz shows its full personality. Coming from the traditional Eikehof Wine Estate in Franschhoek, it reflects the more than 120-year history of the Malherbe family, who have been running the estate since 1903 in the fourth generation.

The nose seduces with aromas of white pepper, fine spices and dark berries, which combine harmoniously to create an elegant bouquet. On the palate, the Eikehof Shiraz is full-bodied and structured, with a round, soft texture that brings out the concentration of the grapes to optimum effect.

Serve this red wine at 16-18 °C with grilled or braised meat, game dishes, spicy cheese or simply as a full-bodied companion for special moments of pleasure.

Waterford Kevin Arnold Shiraz
The Shiraz (or Syrah) grape variety repeatedly achieves exceptional qualities in South Africa. The Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 is an impressive example of this. Winemaker Kevin Arnold is an avowed fan of the grape variety. He has also managed to create a Shiraz in the Blaauwklippen Valley in not too long a time (Waterford Estate was founded in 1998) that plays in the international premier league. The bouquet of the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz combines multi-layered notes of dark plums with intense floral notes of violets. Nuances of licorice and leather as well as subtle earthy tones and a fine spiciness round off the bouquet. On the palate, this South African red wine is dry and engaging, with well-structured, velvety-soft tannins. Meryl Weaver writes of "powerful but supple tannins" in John Platter's Wine Guide. She honors the Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2020 with 92 points (4.5 out of 5 stars). Great balance and fine acidity. The finish is concentrated and cool, with a long aftertaste.6% Mourvèdre are part of the composition. The red wine from the Stellenbosch region matured for more than 20 months in French oak barrels. The fact that Waterford Estate associates something special with its Shiraz wines can also be seen in the fact that each wine is named after a child of the Ord and Arnold families, the owners of the wine estate. The Waterford Estate Kevin Arnold Shiraz is dedicated to "Ashleigh Anne".

Babylonstoren Shiraz
This impenetrable ruby red Shiraz (Syrah) from South Africa is fruity and impressively fresh. At the same time, it impresses with a fine spiciness thanks to its long maturation in oak. Wine critic Christine Rudman was also impressed by the Babylonstoren Shiraz. She awards the Shiraz from the Cape 4 out of 5 stars in John Platter's Wine Guide. The bouquet combines intensely fruity notes of blackcurrants and cherries with spicy notes of black and white pepper and leather. The bouquet is underpinned by perfectly harmonizing woody notes. Rudman chooses these words: "Wonderfully perfumed, elegant berries and cherries, mixed spices with white pepper."The Babylonstoren Shiraz is dry on the palate, with a full body and supple, masterfully integrated tannins. The aromatic complexity is wonderful: flavours of cherries, plums and blackcurrants in fine interplay with nuances of chocolate and an underlying spiciness. The velvety mouthfeel and long-lasting finish round off the flavour experience. Rudman: ‘The 2020 surprises with a streamlined body, juicy & supple.’This South African Shiraz was matured in oak for a total of 18 months. Babylonstoren used 70% new and 30% second-fill French oak barrels (300 litres) for this high-quality Syrah. This red wine is a guarantee of enjoyment until 2030.Enjoy this creation from Babylonstoren, located between Paarl and Stellenbosch, at a drinking temperature of 16 to 18 degrees. An ideal accompaniment to a ribeye steak with black pepper sauce or duck breast with a beetroot carpaccio. Also a delicious choice with tender pork fillet with plums and apricots.

Alto Shiraz
