Diemersfontein The Clockmaker

Der Diemersfontein The Clockmaker Chenin Blanc ist ein besonderer Weißwein aus der südafrikanischen Weinregion Wellington. Dieser erste „Old Vine“ (die Reben müssen älter als 40 Jahre sein) des Weinguts Diemersfontein würdigt einen italienischen Kriegsgefangenen namens Cesare Zanardi, der in den 1940er Jahren auf dem Weingut gearbeitet hat. Nach Kriegsende kehrte er nach Italien zurück und wurde ein erfolgreicher Uhrmacher in Bozen, Südtirol. Die Verbindung zu den Sonnenbergs, Inhaber von Diemersfontein, riss aber nie ab und so besteht bis heute in der 3. Generation eine Freundschaft zwischen den Familien.

Im Glas leuchtet der Diemersfontein The Clockmaker Chenin Blanc in einem klaren, strahlenden Strohgelb. Das Bouquet verführt mit intensiven Aromen von reifer Ananas und einem Hauch von tropischen Früchten, ergänzt durch feine Noten von Honig, weißen Blüten und einem Hauch von Zitrus. Am Gaumen zeigt sich dieser Wein mit einer bemerkenswerten Struktur und einer eleganten Balance. Die lebhafte Säure harmoniert perfekt mit den reichen Fruchtaromen und den dezenten Holzaromen, die durch eine teilweise Reifung in französischen Eichenfässern entstehen. Der Diemersfontein The Clockmaker Chenin Blanc endet in einem langen, trockenen Abgang.

Dieser außergewöhnliche Weißwein passt sehr gut zu gebratener Ente, gegrilltem Fisch oder Schweinefleisch.

Diemersfontein Wine

Nur 45 Autominuten von Kapstadt entfernt liegt Diemersfontein in unmittelbarer Nähe der berühmten Weinstraße am Kap. Bekannt ist Diemersfontein vor allem für seinen herausragenden Pinotage.

Seit den frühen 1940er Jahren ist Diemersfontein im Besitz der Familie Sonnenberg. Max Sonnenberg kaufte die 183 Hektar große Farm, die im Schatten der majestätischen Hawekwa Mountains liegt und mit einem Panoramablick auf die beiden Berge Du Toit Kloof und Bains Kloof ihre Besucher begeistert. Im Mittelpunkt des Weingutes liegen malerische Gärten, die von Cecilia Sonnenberg entworfen wurden. Unzählige Rosen und Azaleen bieten mit ihrer Blütenpracht den Rahmen für festliche Anlässe.

Die ersten Weinberge wurden in den 1970er-Jahren gepflanzt und im Jahr 2000 baute David Sonennberg seinen eigenen Keller und begann mit der Produktion preisgekrönter Gutsweine. Die Rebflächen sind mit Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot ausgelegt, aber auch die „weniger bekannten“ Rebsorten Viognier, Barbera, Roobernet und Mouvedre werden hier erfolgreich angebaut. Bekannt wurde Diemersfontein vor allem für seinen herausragenden Pinotage.

The Diemersfontein Thokozani Shiraz Mouvedre Viognier is a joint project of many employees of the Diemersfontein winery. The red wine is vinified under the leadership of the Diemersfontein wine team. Thokozani is an independent company in which the employees, who are also the shareholders, create their own capital. The wine is redolent of mocha, dark chocolate and tobacco, complemented by hints of liquorice. On the palate, the wine shows sweet aromas of black fruit, along with nuances of spices. Chenin Blanc, the white wine full of character, repeatedly achieves outstanding qualities, especially in South Africa. The Waterford Old Vine Chenin Blanc is the perfect example of this. Some of the grapes used in this white wine come from vines that were planted in 1966, more than 50 years ago. (The second vineyard was planted in 1978) A fascinating aromatic concentration characterizes this white wine from the Stellenbosch region. If you like: With age, you learn more and more to concentrate on the things that matter.Intense fruity notes of pear, grapefruit and peach characterize the bouquet. Harmonious notes of honey and floral tones complete the bouquet.
