Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage

‘Diesel Pinotage’ is certainly an unusual name for a wine. However, it is easily explained once you know the history behind it. ‘Diesel’ was the name of the dog of Beyer Truters, the owner of the Beyerskloof estate. The dog was his beloved, loyal and constant companion. Diesel was always at his side, whether in the vineyards, in the cellar or in his office, so it was only logical that Beyers Truters named his best wine after his ‘best’ friend.The grapes for the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage come from bush vines that are cultivated without wire trellis training systems. In South Africa, the bush vine method is often used specifically for Pinotage. The fermentation took place in open barrels for 5 days at an average temperature of 78.8° F, while the must was pressed down every 2 hours. Subsequently, the malolactic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the wine matured for 18 months in new French oak casks. Only 20 out of a total of 300 filled barrels were chosen to produce the Diesel Pinotage.The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is a deep purple in the glass. Its bouquet is characterised by complex aromas of blackberries and dark fruit, complemented by elegant notes of cedar wood. On the palate, the wine shows a fine but complex structure of black and red fruit. This Pinotage is truly a superb wine, captivating with its outstanding balance between fruit and wood. This wine has an outstanding ageing potential and it is expected to be a genuine delight over the next 10 years or even longer.It is an ideal accompaniment to spicy Indian cuisine or a well-matured rump steak. The Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is arguably one of the best Pinotage wines from the Cape.

On the palate, the wine shows lovely, intense aromas and a pleasant, natural acidity.The Paul Cluver Pinot Noir matured for eleven months in oak casks, of which 15% were new barrels. The rest of the barrels were second-, third- and fourth-fill oak casks.The Pinot Noir from the wine-growing region of Elgin has a lovely acidity and goes beautifully with meals. It is a very good accompaniment to grilled beef, game or tangy hard cheeses.

Meerlust Pinot Noir

Die trockene Gärung wurde in offenen Behältern vorgenommen. Nach 10 Tagen wurde der Wein gepresst und einer malolaktischen Gärung in neuen, stark getoasteten Holzfässer unterzogen. Reifte dann für 15 Monate in Barrique und anschließend 3 Jahre auf der Flasche bevor eine Freigabe für den Handel erfolgte.In der Nase rote Frucht, nach Preiselbeeren und wilden Erdbeeren mit Noten von wilden Pilzen und einer ausgeprägten Moschus Note. Im Mund mit mittlerem Körper und perfekt reifen Pinot Fruchtaromen von roten Früchten, Gewürzen und Backpulver und einen Hauch von Salzigem verspielt wahrzunehmen. Die samtigen Tannine sind gut strukturiert und zeigen sich ausgewogen und lang am Gaumen.Perfekt zu hellen und dunklen Fleischsorten, Parmaschinken, gegrilltem Fisch, Champignons und Käse.

Driehoek Cederberg Mieke Pinot Noir

The Cederberg mountains, located about 160 kilometres north of Cape Town, are home to the Du Toit family. More than 10 years ago, the family planted about 12 acres of vines here, including Pinot Noir vines, from which their neighbour, the renowned winemaker David Nieuwoudt, produced the Driehoek Cederberg Mieke Pinot Noir, which rapidly became very popular. Such helpful cooperation is not unusual, as this principle is writ large in South Africa.The red wine has an intense bouquet redolent of light red fruit such as cherries or raspberries. On the palate, it is wonderfully supple, offering a mix of aromas of cranberries and spicy notes of cloves and nutmeg. The perceptible acidity structure is surrounded by light, silky tannins. The finish of the Driehoek Cederberg Mieke Pinot Noir is long-lasting, with lovely earthy nuances.This wine goes well with crisp duck breast or a hearty mushroom risotto.

Denn 5 Sterne in John Platter’s Wine Guide sprechen eine deutliche Sprache: Der Creation Estate Pinot Noir Reserve ist ein herausragendes Beispiel südafrikanischer Weinbaukunst.Intensiv duftende Noten von frischen Himbeeren und Schwarzkirschen prägen mit eindrucksvoll würzigen Tönen (Pfeffer, Nelken, Muskat) das Bukett. Am Gaumen ist der hellrubinrote Wein wunderbar samtweich, mit reifen, geschliffenen Tanninen und großer Fruchtreinheit, die im Einklang mit einer knackigen Säure harmonieren. „2020 bietet eine Reihe von Düften und Geschmacksrichtungen und zeigt, wie verführerisch Pinot sein kann“, schreibt Christine Rudman im Platter und vergibt 95 Punkte.12 Monate reifte der Chardonnay im Eichenholz, wobei zu 35 Prozent neue Fässer zum Einsatz kamen. Bowman schreibt von erdigen Noten roter und schwarzer Früchte.Auch am Gaumen ist die Aromendichte eindrucksvoll. Üppige Noten von Kirschen und Pflaumen vermischen sich mit erdigen Aromen von Pilzen und Gewürzen. Von einer „würzigen, tonangebenden Tanninstruktur aus 60% neuer Eiche für 12 Monate“ schreibt Bowman weiter und von einem Spitzenwein mit Reinheit, Präzision und Struktur für die Ewigkeit.Der hellrubinrote Pinot Noir reifte für ein Jahr in Eichenfässern, wobei etwa zur Hälfte neue Fässer zum Einsatz kamen. Die Fässer werden akribisch ausgewählt, nur die besten werden für diesen Pinot Noir eingesetzt. Für einen Großteil des Weins erfolgt die Vinifizierung mit ganzen Trauben, also ohne Entrappen und Quetschen. Dies eignet sich besonders gut für Pinot Noir, da so mehr Farbe, Aroma und Struktur extrahiert wird.
