Boschendal Wines

Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Chardonnay
The Kleine Zalze Chardonnay Barrel Fermented from South Africa's Western Cape is an elegant, wood-aged white wine that perfectly combines freshness, finesse and minerality. For this Chardonnay, the Kleine Zalze winery combines grapes from Stellenbosch with granite soils and a small proportion from Robertson with calcareous soils - a harmonious combination that gives the wine fruit, structure and fine minerality. In the glass, the white wine impresses with a light golden color and an enticing bouquet of lime, citrus blossom, apple, pineapple and tropical fruit, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla and oak. On the palate, the Chardonnay is creamy, harmonious and complex, with a fine woody spiciness, lively acidity and an elegant, slightly tart finish. The maturation in French oak - 20% new barrels, the rest second and third fill - for eight months ensures depth, balance and a long-lasting structure. The Kleine Zalze Chardonnay Barrel Fermented is ideal with fish, poultry with strong sauces, creamy pasta dishes or mild cheeses such as Brie and cream cheese and should be served at 10-12 °C to fully develop its freshness and complexity.

Lanzerac Chardonnay
The grapes for the Lanzerac Chardonnay come from the estate’s various vineyards, of which the oldest are more than 20 years old. The blending of the grapes from the different vineyards has a positive impact on the wines’ complexity. The yield is less than 5 tons per hectare (1 hectare = approx. 2.47 acres). In order to only pick healthy and fully ripe grapes, the harvest was carried out by hand. Subsequently, the grapes were again selected by hand in the cellar. After cutting, the grapes were cooled down to 59 °F and pressed. The wine was fermented in barrels, of which 70% were 300-litre oak casks and 30% were stainless steel tanks. After 9 months, the two batches were blended. The Lanzerac Chardonnay is full-bodied and distinctive, offering aromas of citrus, ginger, vanilla and clover on the nose. On the palate, it shows a noticeable balance between fruit, acidity and softness. The finish is creamy and long-lasting. Thanks to its wonderful complexity, the Lanzerac Chardonnay goes beautifully with smoked salmon, sea bass or paella with seafood.

Buitenverwachting Chardonnay
The Buitenverwachting Chardonnay from the Constantia region (South Africa) is a powerful and elegant white wine that impressively reflects the special climatic conditions of this cool coastal location. The contact with the fresh winds of the Atlantic and the mineral granite soils give the wine a distinctive freshness and fine structure. In the glass, the Chardonnay is a sparkling golden yellow. The nose seduces with notes of citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, exotic fruits such as mango and pineapple as well as a hint of flint, vanilla and gently toasted wood. The interplay of freshness, fruit and elegantly integrated oak spice makes this wine authentic and multi-layered.On the palate, the white wine is full-bodied and creamy, balanced by a lively acidity. Ageing in French oak - typically several months in barriques - provides additional depth and a persistent texture without overpowering the freshness. At a drinking temperature of 10-12°C, Buitenverwachting Chardonnay is an ideal accompaniment to roast chicken, cold salmon, rich vegetables or soft cheese. It also unfolds its elegance particularly impressively on its own.
