The Scenario Bolgheri Bianco DOC is the result of the Argentiera winery’s intensive research into Vermentino. The grapes come from a north-facing vineyard at an elevation of 60 to 80 meters above Villa Donoratico. The vines grow on continental sandy and flysch soils, whose varying characteristics are specifically harnessed to highlight the aging potential and versatility of the Vermentino grape variety.
The grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place under temperature control at 16 to 18 °C, partly in spherical stoneware vessels (Clayvers) with a capacity of 400 liters and partly in untoasted, steam-bent wooden barrels, known as Cigares. The wine then ages on its fine lees for nine months in the same vessels before spending an additional 14 months aging in the bottle. The different aging vessels lend the wine additional complexity: The elongated shape of the Cigares intensifies contact with the fine lees, while the spherical Clayvers keep the wine constantly in motion, giving it a silky-smooth texture.
On the nose, the Scenario impresses with an expressive bouquet that highlights the freshness and varietal characteristics of Vermentino. On the palate, it is precise and multi-layered, with a fine texture, lively freshness, and remarkable complexity resulting from the combination of the two vinification and aging methods.
This Vermentino pairs excellently with grilled fish, seafood, and shellfish, as well as with delicate pasta dishes featuring Mediterranean herbs. It is also an excellent choice with white meat poultry or creamy goat cheese.
