Thomas Hensel ist einer von 20 Winzer aus Bad Dürkheim. Sein 17-Hektar Weinberg befindet sich direkt neben dem lokalen „Flughafen“. Die Familie Hensel besitzt seit über 300 Jahren ihre Lagen in und um Bad Dürkheim. Reben wurden hier seit jeher im großen Rahmen veredelt. So war es nicht verwunderlich, dass Thomas Hensels Händchen für die Pflanze und sein Gespür für trendige Rebsorten ihn zu einem aufstrebenden qualitätsbewussten Winzer machte.

Die Philosophie von Thomas Hensel basiert auf höchsten Qualitätsansprüchen durch Handarbeit im Weinberg und selektive Lese nur gesunder Trauben bei schonendem Ausbau. Hensels Weingut ist wie er selbst jung. Seine Weine jedoch, die haben sich bereits fest etabliert.

Delaire Graff Banghoek Chardonnay

The Delaire Graff estate is renowned for its elegant, multi-layered wines. The Banghoek Chardonnay from the eponymous valley located northwest of Stellenbosch in South Africa is the best evidence of this. The valley provides ideal conditions for the Chardonnay grapes, sufficient humidity and balanced sunlight on the slopes. The grapes were harvested by hand in the cool morning hours over a period of 14 days, based on the grapes’ level of maturity. After pressing, the wine was fermented in barrels. Subsequently, the Delaire Graff Banghoek Chardonnay matured for 10 months in barriques, of which 40% were new French oak casks.The wine has a wonderfully clear bouquet hinting of vanilla and peaches, along with nuances of honey. On the palate, the Banghoek Chardonnay is multi-layered, marvellously fresh and very elegant. Its long-lasting finish is characterised by a lovely minerality.

Hensel und Gretel Cuvée Weißwein

Friendships such as the one between wine-makers Thomas Hensel and Markus Schneider count for a lot. Both come from the Palatinate and both of them create their own outstanding wines, so it was only logical that Hensel and Schneider decided to collaborate on a joint project.They created the Hensel and Gretel Weißwein (white wine), amongst others. This cuvée consists of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. It is a fine, shimmering gold in the glass. On the nose, the wine surprises connoisseurs with an abundance of fruit aromas such as notes of apples, pears and tropical fruit like melon, peaches and passion fruit.On the palate, the Hensel and Gretel Weisswein is marvellously powerful and expressive. It is a multi-faceted, complex wine that is a genuine delight right from the first sip. The wine was aged in second-fill wooden casks, leading to light notes of smoke and oak. The finish is slightly sweet.The Hensel and Gretel Weißwein is not only a lovely terrace wine but is also a wonderful accompaniment to light dishes.

With 40 months of bottle fermentation on the lees, this fine brut is one of the most elaborate and highest quality Lugana sparkling wines. It comes from the Azienda Agricola Bulgarini, which stands for fine, characterful wines with a regional identity.In the glass, this sparkling wine shines in a brilliant straw yellow with a fine, rising perlage. The Hensel und Gretel Cuvée Rotwein (red wine) is another joint project realised by the wine-makers Thomas Hensel and Markus Schneider. The wine-makers from the Palatinate share not only a deep friendship, but their passion for creating great wines as well. Thus it’s no surprise that they collaborated in the creation of the Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine), amongst others. Both of them are particularly fond of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, which predominates in this red wine. The wine is a powerful deep red in the glass. On the nose, it is redolent of cocoa, vanilla, blackberries, cassis and dark cherries. The Hensel and Gretel Rotwein (red wine) is elegant and round on the palate, with wonderfully integrated tannins.
