It matured for up to 14 months in barriques made of Kaiserstuhl oak: The Salwey Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) Kirchberg Spätburgunder is a very special ambassador for viniculture from Baden. It has an intense bouquet hinting of typical cherry aromas, essential oils and smoky notes as well. This Spätburgunder is elegant and soft on the palate, very dense, with a fine tannin structure. The wine is full-bodied, with a long finish. To prevent the vines in the hot top terraces from producing jam aromas, most of the grapes are fermented with their stems.The Kirchberg vineyard measures about 7.5 acres and consists of weathered, stony, volcanic soil with lime inclusions.
