Château Fontesteau Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur AC 2020

Château Fontesteau 2020 is a remarkable red wine from the prestigious Haut-Médoc appellation in Bordeaux. The historic Château Fontesteau, which dates back to the 13th century, is surrounded by a rich ecosystem, including a forest of centuries-old oaks and a picturesque pond. During the reclassification in the Médoc, Château Fontesteau was promoted to the "Cru Bourgeois Supérieur" category, with only 14 of a total of 249 Cru Bourgeois represented in this higher category.

The grapes for this red wine grow on the 35 hectares of vineyards on the 100-hectare estate on gravelly soils, which allow optimal drainage and ensure slow, even ripening of the grapes. The cuvée is made up of the typical Bordeaux grape varieties, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

After the harvest, vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the fruitiness and elegance of the wine. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, which gives it additional depth and a fine spiciness. In the glass, Château Fontesteau is a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The bouquet exudes intense aromas of blackcurrants, dark cherries and fine roasted aromas, complemented by nuances of cedar wood and graphite. On the palate, the wine impresses with a successful balance of powerful tannins, juicy fruit and well-integrated acidity. The fine spice from the wood maturation rounds off the taste and leads to a long-lasting, elegant finish.

This classic Bordeaux is an excellent accompaniment to grilled beef, rack of lamb or braised duck. It is also an excellent choice with mature hard cheese or a traditional French cheese platter.

Château Fontesteau should be served at 16 to 18 °C and ideally decanted before drinking to allow the aromas to develop to their full potential.

A classic Haut-Médoc with structure, depth and elegance - perfect for Bordeaux lovers and festive occasions.

Chateau Belgrave Haut Medoc Grand Cru Classe

Château Charmail is known for producing wines that very often score significantly higher than their price would suggest. Charmail, classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, was taken over by Oliver Seze in the 1980s and underwent a "horse cure" of renewal until the wines once again reached the level of the terroir on which its vines grow. As a neighbor of Sociando-Mallet and Phélan-Ségur, the Gironde is not far away and the wine is now one of the best in the Haut-Médoc. Seze is still active as a consultant, but has handed over the vineyard to Bernard d'Halluin and his daughter Marie.2018 is the first year of the "dream trilogy" 2018, 2019 and 2020, which produced outstanding wines in the Bordelais. The cuvée consists of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. The appeal of this wine lies in its creaminess and fine fruit, with underlying sweet aromas. Blue and black berries, cassis, tobacco and chocolate delight the nose. Silky on the palate, with a medium-full body, toasty notes from the wood, which do not dominate, and polished tannins. The finish is long lasting. This elegant and balanced Haut-Médoc is already ready to drink, but only after about an hour of decanting. However, it should still have a span of at least 15 years ahead of it, provided it is stored properly, of course. The 2018 offers a great drinking experience at an excellent price-performance ratio. Fine Bordeaux enjoyment doesn't get any cheaper than this!Jeb Dunnuck: 93/100Suckling: 92-93/100Kunz/Gabriel: 17/20

Château Charmail Haut-Médoc AOC 2019
Château Charmail, located in the north of the Médoc, is the neighbor of Sociando-Mallet and has an exceptionally good terroir close to the Gironde. Formerly dormant, this estate woke up a few decades ago and produces fresh and fruity wines that have propelled Château Charmail into the top league of the Left Bank. It is important to bear in mind that the prices for this grape juice are still more than moderate, making Charmail one of the absolute price-performance winners in the whole of Bordeaux. The 2019 vintage is also exceptionally successful and is considered part of the century trilogy (2018-2020).A wonderfully deep ruby red glows in the glass. On the nose, the typically delicate fruit of Château Charmail, with cassis, blackberries, redcurrants and a hint of elderberry. On the palate, the red and blueberry character intensifies, framed by tobacco, licorice, leather and a little graphite, as well as mint and cedar. Everything is very fresh and harmonious, with good structure and race and some residual sweetness, which balances wonderfully with the intense fruit. Although the tannins are present, they are not over-represented, but appear polished and polished. The finish is extremely long.Château Charmail 2019 is a winner in its price category and scores even higher. Excellent for cellaring, it is already ready to drink after 1-2 hours of decanting.Weinwisser: 93-95/100Suckling: 91/100Decanter: 91/100Gabriel: 17/20

Château Malescasse Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois AOP 2022
Château Malescasse is a reflection of this exceptional vintage. Malescasse, owned by Philippe Austruy since 2012, has been on an admirable upward trajectory ever since. The dedication and investments that have benefited Malescasse have now been rewarded with its classification as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2020.The wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. This red wine impresses with deep, dark hues and violet highlights. On the nose, it offers notes of black cherry, blackberry, caramel, and a hint of mint. Overall, it offers plenty of intensity, abundant fruit, and a creaminess and sweetness that nonetheless do not lack complexity. So, this is no “fruit compote,” but rather a lush bouquet, balanced by fine tannins and a very long finish. This charmer still has a long life ahead of it and will benefit from being allowed to rest a while until it has fully developed in the bottle. This should be the case around 2025. However, those who simply can’t wait should decant the Château Malescasse at least 1–1½ hours in advance.Due to its intensity, this is a wine that’s particularly impressive on its own. But it also pairs wonderfully with game, goulash, or pasta.
