MontGras Intriga comes from the Alto Maipo, one of Chile's best-known Cabernet regions.

The Maipo Valley is the cradle of Chilean quality viticulture. It is a day's journey southwest of Santiago - if you take the coach, as Alejandro Reyes did when he came to this valley in 1865. It didn't take the passionate winegrower long to realize that this corner of the world was a winemaker's paradise. He brought the finest European grape varieties to his new home and began to make wines that were better than anything else available in Chile to date. Alejandro quickly became famous, but his pioneering work was almost as quickly forgotten. Today, over 140 years later, Alejandro's vineyards have been rediscovered for what they always were: The foundation on which Chile's rise to the world wine elite stands.

Viña MontGras, the new owners of the historic property, have reserved the vines of the old vineyards for an exceptional wine that defines the quintessence of the Maipo Valley: Intriga. The Cabernet Sauvignon, which is only available in strictly limited quantities, is a monumental red wine that has been aged for 15 months in American and French oak barrels.

The first vintage of the new "Super Chilean" has already caused an international sensation. We have secured a contingent of the already sold-out second vintage and promise you an incredibly good wine for surprisingly little money!

Das chilenische Weingut Viña Mont Gras liegt im berühmten Colchagua-Tal, einer Subregion des Rapel-Tals in der Zentralregion Chiles, 192 Kilometer südwestlich von Santiago. Das Rapel-Tal hat Anbauflächen von mehr als 9.000 Hektar. Sie sind im Westen durch die Küstengebirge und im Osten durch die Anden geschützt. Die Flüsse Rio Cachapoal und Rio Tinguiririca durchziehen das Tal. Es bietet ein unverwechselbares Terroir für die Kreation hochwertiger Weine. Die wesentlichen Rebsorten sind Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Malbec und Shiraz. Hinzu kommen, in geringerem Ausmaß, Chardonnay, Viognier und Sauvignon Blanc.

Die ersten Lagen der Viña Mont Gras wurden 1993 in der gerühmten Peralillo-Region mit Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay und Sauvignon Blanc bepflanzt. Im Laufe der darauffolgenden Jahre kamen neue Ländereien hinzu. Nun nennt das Weingut mehr als 900 Hektar sein Eigen, auf denen auch Viognier, Carménère, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Malbec und Zinfandel heranreifen.

Hernán und Eduardo Gras sind gemeinsam mit Cristián Hartwig die Väter des erfolgreichen und international häufig ausgezeichneten chilenischen Weingutes. Hernán Gras wird mit diesen Worten zitiert: „Unsere Philosophie ist es, chilenischen Wein höchster Qualität zu kreieren, der die Einzigartigkeit des Terroirs widerspiegelt. Taste of red berries, soft and pleasing with a beautiful length.The grapes for the DeGras wines come from our own vineyards in the Colchagua Valley and are all harvested by hand. The wines are fruity and balanced and, above all, uncomplicated to enjoy. They are elegant, varietal representatives of their type.The majority of this De Gras Cabernet Sauvignon is matured in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit almost perfectly. Around 10% matures for 6 months in small French and American oak barrels to give the red wine a firm structure and spiciness.RECOMMENDATION: with roast meat, light game and cheese
