Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon

The Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon from the Colchagua Valley is a characterful red wine of international stature. It is produced on the Marchigüe estate, where the Cabernet Sauvignon vines thrive on stony, clayey soils with optimal water retention. The cuvée is complemented by small proportions of Syrah and Carmenère, which grow on the slopes and lend the wine additional depth and elegance.

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and carefully selected. After gentle destemming, fermentation takes place over 7 to 10 days before malolactic fermentation is carried out in concrete and stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for 16 months in French oak, 60% of which is new wood - an ageing process that lends structure and complexity without masking the fruit.

In the glass, the Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep ruby red. On the nose, it develops an intense aroma of ripe plums, dark cherries and dried figs, complemented by spicy notes of black pepper, graphite, dark chocolate, leather and a hint of mocha. It impresses on the palate with great volume, a powerful structure and a harmonious balance of fruit, spice and wood. The long, elegant finish rounds off the experience.

The Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent accompaniment to hearty meat dishes such as beef steaks, lamb chops with Cabernet jus, game dishes or pasta with spicy Bolognese. It is also an excellent accompaniment to mature hard cheeses. Enjoy at 17-19 °C and decant for at least 30 minutes before drinking to allow its full spectrum of aromas to develop.

Carmen Gran Reserva Carménère, a single-varietal Carménère from the Colchagua Valley, has an intensely fruity and spicy aroma. Notes of black cherries characterize the bouquet, along with beautiful tones of laurel, cloves, dark chocolate, olives and tobacco. There are also noticeable nuances of pepper and paprika, typical of Chilean Carménère. On the palate, the Carmen Gran Reserva Carménère is pleasantly structured and concentrated, with soft and velvety tannins. The deep ruby red shimmering wine matured for 14 months in French oak barrels. Its ageing potential is 6 to 7 years.Viña Carmen was founded in 1850, making it one of the oldest wineries in Chile. The winery was a driving force behind the renaissance of the Carménère grape variety in the mid-1990s and has an outstanding ability to bring the qualities of this grape variety to full fruition. The old Bordeaux grape variety almost completely disappeared in France due to the phylloxera plague. However, it found its way to Chile at the time. There it remained undiscovered for decades. For many years, there was the "Chilean Merlot", which was particularly spicy with notes of green pepper. It was not until 1994 that it was discovered that the cause of these particular notes was a "stowaway", so to speak, in the growing regions: the Carménère grape variety. The well-known US wine critic James Suckling said: "Really beautiful aromas of blackberries and flowers with black licorice and mushrooms, followed by a full body." At the same time, the red wine is "dense and precise with a fine tannin texture and a long, spicy finish".Try this dry red wine with spicy pasta variations, pheasant or duck. The ideal drinking temperature is around 18 degrees. Our recommendation: open the wine about an hour before drinking.
