Scheiblhofer Big John Cuvée Reserve Red

The Scheiblhofer winery in eastern Austria has been writing an impressive success story since the mid-1980s. The red and white wines that Johann and, since 2000, his son Erich have created and continue to create from Burgenland are always a feast for the senses and cause a sensation in the international wine world. The Scheiblhofer Big John Cuvée Reserve is a wonderful example of Scheiblhofer's outstanding winemaking skills.

The blend of Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir shines in the glass in a dense violet with ruby red edges. The bouquet of this Austrian red wine is fascinatingly intense and multi-faceted. It combines great fruitiness (black cherries, blackberries, plums) with delicate notes of caramel, nougat, toasted oak and subliminal hints of tobacco.

On the palate, the Scheiblhofer Big John Cuvée Reserve is dry, fresh and juicy, with noticeable tannins that are wonderfully integrated into the interplay of aromas. The intense fruit (blackcurrant) is also evident here, along with the stimulating caramel tones and a fine sweetness that accompanies the finish.

peter Moser awarded 92 points in Falstaff for this Scheiblhofer cuvée. this exceptional wine matured for 12 months in barriques. The Big John creation is also a tribute from son Erich to his father Johann. The Scheiblhofer Big John Cuvée Reserve is therefore a special idea for wine lovers as a gift for Father's Day or a birthday.

Enjoy this red wine from Austria at a drinking temperature of 15 to 17 degrees. Be sure to decant beforehand. The blend from Erich Scheiblhofer, who was named Winemaker of the Year by Falstaff magazine in 2021, is a great accompaniment to delicate meat dishes such as veal chops, meatloaf or goulash, ragout or stews. It also goes well with duck, pollack or redfish, as well as with a raw milk soft cheese such as Epoisses AOP from Burgundy in France. The Scheiblhofer Big John Cuvée Reserve from Burgenland is a real treat until 2031.
