Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz

Deep dark purple.

Nose: An initial rush of green tobacco, parsley & bouquet garni with a waft of red liquorice. Fresh fruits abound - mulberry, the most obvious. Upon a swirl, cedar, spice and a flirt of toasted marshmallow. With air, the generosity and sweetness of fruit is shyly revealed.

Palete: Rhubarb and berried fruits to the fore and at the other end - a kick off the back-palate of crushed black pepper. Not forgetting the mid-palate - wonderfully integrated oak & spice and a 360- degree propulsion of graphite-like tannins. Cola and black olive flavours descend with an exuberant swirl - reflective of this wine's youth...

Penfolds

d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz
The South Australian “The Dead Arm Shiraz” from d'Arenberg is a remarkable wine in many ways. The bouquet is seductive, with earthy notes and flavors of dark fruit, fennel and spicy nuances. With time, notes of sweet berries and forest floor unfold. 18 months this exceptional Shiraz matured in French and American oak barrels. On the palate the wine from the famous growing region of McLaren Vale, 35 kilometres south of Adelaide, is dense and concentrated. Aromas of plum, blackberry, mulberry and black olives as well as hints of pepper and earthy notes give a wonderful taste experience. The tannins are integrated wonderfully. The wine has a looooong finish - a pleasure that never seems to end. Complex and hearty. Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. One half, or an ‘arm’ of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. Although this results in a lower yield, the grapes on the healthy arm offer an amazing intensity. The Dead Arm Shiraz - an impressive varietal Shiraz..

Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz
This Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz is a deep brick-red in colour. Initially, the wine offers sumptuous, warm and spicy Shiraz aromas such as cloves, cinnamon, coriander, juicy plums and cherries. Later, it shows notes of liquorice and fine nuances of vanilla. This wine is medium-bodied and rich in taste, showing juicy aromas of plums, cherries and berries, which mingle with notes of dark chocolate, mocha and spices. The wine matured for 12 months in repeatedly used American oak casks. The Penfolds Bin 28 is a prime example of Australian Shiraz wines, made of grapes which ripened at a pleasant warmth. It is robust and offers opulent, juicy aromas, without showing dominant notes of new oak or an excessive alcohol content. This Shiraz was produced for the first time in 1962 and owed its name ‘Kalimna’ to the renowned vineyard located in the Barossa Valley. Penfolds acquired this vineyard in 1945, from whose grapes the wine was initially solely made.Today, the Bin 28 is a real Penfolds - a multi-regional and multi-vineyard blend, which means that this wine is made from vines from different regions and vineyards. It shows clearly defined, ripe fruit in its youth, concentration and significant fruit sweetness, with minimal wood influence.
