At almost 5,000 feet elevation in the Andean foothills, the Adrianna vineyard's pebble covered soils and cool climate are ideal for growing Chardonnay. The fruit from the Adrianna vineyard has a purity of flavors and a minerality that is particular to this vineyard and can not be found anywhere else in Mendoza.

Catena Alta Chardonnay is made from a special lot of the Adrianna vineyard. This wine undergoes a demanding selection process in both the vineyard and the winery.

This Chardonnay from California matured for 10 months in American and French oak casks, thus wonderfully complementing the intense fruity aromas of the Wente Riva Ranch Chardonnay. Its bouquet unites notes of tropical fruit, crème brûlée, vanilla, oak and lovely toasted aromas. On the palate, this wine from “California’s First Family of Chardonnay” is full-bodied, sumptuous and slightly creamy, with a nice texture, balance and a long finish. The Wente family has been producing wine for 5 generations. This blend, consisting mainly of Chardonnay and a very small percentage of Gewürztraminer, demonstrates why the winery is one of the leading estates in Californian viticulture.Enjoy this american white wine together with cheese, vegetable-meals or chicken.

Colour:Pale gold. Aroma:An intense and complex nose with aromas of white peach, honeysuckle and subtle savoury and bacon oak notes. Palate:A deliciously full-bodied and rich wine with complex stone fruit flavours and a touch of spice supported by underlying savoury oak notes and subtle yeast autolysis characters. The palate is elegant and full with firm acidity and a lingering finish. Ageing potential:Perfect for drinking immediately this Chardonnay will age well in the bottle with careful cellaring up for to four years from vintage date.Winemaking:The fruit was carefully hand-picked and whole bunch pressed to ensure the vineyard characteristics and fruit flavours were preserved. Wine was barrel fermented in 100 per cent American oak (50 per cent new oak barrels, 25 per cent second fill, 25 per cent third fill). Selected yeast strains were used for fermentation. The wine then went through malolactic fermentation followed by 10 months ageing on yeast lees, with regular stirring. Only the best barrels from each batch were selected to use in the final blend. The Catena Chardonnay combines the unique expressions of three high altitude vineyard sites. The La Piramide vineyard offers rich pineapple, passion fruit flavors and aromas with a touch of sweet honey with a rich mouthfeel. The Domingo vineyard lends notes of citrus fruit with floral notes and excellent acidity. The Adrianna vineyard contributes green apple, pear and fig flavors with a strong mineral component and vibrant acidity.The wine shows a light yellow color with marked greenish tones. The aromas show tropical fruit flavors with touches of apple and pear as well as hints of cinnamon and minerals. The mouthfeel is full yet clean, with fresh, crisp acidity.
