The high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza are lined with poplars, or "alamos" in Spanish. They protect the vines from the harsh, cool Andean winds and give this Catena wine line its name. The Alamos Torrontés, made from 100% Torrontés grapes, is still a real insider tip from Argentina.

Bodega Catena Zapata gilt als Pionier des modernen Weinbaus in Argentinien und hat den internationalen Ruf von argentinischem Malbec maßgeblich geprägt. Das Weingut ist berühmt für seine hochgelegenen Weinberge in den Anden – insbesondere die Lagen Adrianna Vineyard (1.500 m) und Nicasia Vineyard –, die dank großer Tag-Nacht-Temperaturunterschiede und kalkreicher Böden komplexe, elegante und langlebige Weine hervorbringen.
