This Riesling from the Hermannsberg an der Nahe estate is a fascinating one: the bouquet unites notes of lime and grapefruit with vegetal nuances. The bedrock consists of slate covered by a layer of loess.” More than 100 years ago, melaphyre was brought into the vineyard during mining operations. This “Große Gewächs” (grand cru, literally “great growth”) from the Hermannsberg estate is a fascinating delight: it has a bouquet hinting of exotic fruit with green and yellow herbal notes and discreet nuances of honey. This wine is charming on the palate complemented by a finish with fine acidity - a Riesling wine of the highest quality. This is also due to the slopes on which the grapes for the Gut Hermannsberg GG Traiser Bastei Riesling are grown. The winery explains: “This is one of the most spectacular vineyards in the world. The Rotenfels encloses the little stage like an amphitheatre where only the Riesling puts in such an impressive performance. The crenellated formations above the vineyard gave it its name.” The massif with its huge heat reservoir looms over the vines. During the day, hot temperatures prevail, but at night it cools down drastically. This results in a spectacular wine from spectacular vineyards. The stony soils are the basis for elegant Riesling wines with a fine minerality and a distinctive fruitiness. This animating Pinot Blanc from Gut Hermannsberg smells of white flowers and delicate citrus notes. On the palate, this Pinot Blanc from the Nahe is initially elegantly sweet, creamy and fresh on the tongue. It is also a wonderful taste experience thanks to its volcanic minerality.Most of the grapes for this wine come from the Winzenheimer Berg vineyard. However, it is the grapes from the legendary Kupfergrube that give it its character. According to the winery, thousands of hours of work were required at the beginning of the last century to turn the former copper mine and the surrounding rugged rocky terrain into a vineyard. The south-facing terraces of the fascinating Kupfergrube site produce grapes with outstanding aromas thanks to their barren soils.The dry Gut Hermannsberg Pinot Blanc comes mainly from the steep slope.A wonderful white wine from Rhineland-Palatinate, which not only cuts a fine figure in the asparagus season, but also tastes excellent with light starters, salads and fish dishes with vegetables. The Gut Hermannsberg Riesling Steinterrassen unites a fine herbal spice and notes of stone fruit in its bouquet. This Riesling from the Nahe region is wonderfully creamy on the palate and shows an impressive, salty finish. The grapes for this lovely wine come from the steepest terraces of three major vineyards.The wine matured mainly in 600-litre oak casks and was fermented with proprietary yeast. This white wine from the Rhineland-Palatinate is dense and concentrated, yet richly sophisticated with a pronounced minerality. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to barbecue.Try this recommendation: Place rib-eye steaks on the grill, briefly grill each for three minutes at 400°C/750°F until it is crisp on the outside. Cut the steaks into slices, then season them with fleur de sel and pepper. Grilled vegetables make an ideal side dish.
