The pure varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from the Alto Wine Estate located in the Stellenbosch region is a lovely example of South African viticulture. Winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen selects only the best grapes to produce this wine. The vines grow on soils consisting of decomposed granite, while the subsoils are clay, giving the Alto Cabernet Sauvignon its finesse and intense character.The wine is a deep dark red in colour, indicating its power. The Alto Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of dark fruit, cedar wood and spices in its spicy bouquet, along with mineral notes and nuances of dark chocolate. It is rich and concentrated on the palate, with a balanced structure. The fine tannins and the notes of dark fruit make this wine a wonderful taste experience and simultaneously emphasise its prolonged finish.The Alto Cabernet Sauvignon goes beautifully with steaks or roast lamb. It is also an ideal accompaniment to stews and gratins.

The grapes for this wine come from north- and northwest-facing vineyards located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. Weinkritiker Greg de Bruyn beschreibt das Bouquet in Platter’s Wine Guide so: „Waldboden-Erdigkeit, jodhaltige Mineralität und saftige Cassis-Frucht, durchzogen von Tabakwürze.“Am Gaumen ist der Rotwein aus der Stellenbosch-Region trocken und vielschichtig, mit großer Konzentration und Frische. Die schöne Mineralität und die aromatische Tiefe (dunkle Beeren im Vordergrund) runden das Geschmackserlebnis ab. „Geschmeidig und rund nach 18 Monaten in größtenteils neuem Eichenholz“, urteilt auch de Bruyn.
